The Allied battleships in the Solomons have trouble finding the enemy as they grope in the dark and the Japanese that approach Lanchow are being threatened with encirclement.

The Japanese battleship Kongo is sunk in night action around Bougainville. The Japanese battleships Ise and Hyuga are sunk by carrier aircraft.

June 6th, 1943.
The battleship Yamashiro is bottomed in Rabaul harbor by the JOLLY SKY RAIDERS. Four Japanese battleships have been sunk in the last two turns.

July 18th, 1943.
Japanese carriers come down and pummel the Allied carrier force. They sink British CV Formidable and US CV's Essex, Wasp II, Yorktown II. The Japanese suffer no sinkings.
He didn't push me off New Britian though.

Storms once again suspend most offensive operations. But we did manage to sink the Japanese cruiser Takao.

Rabaul falls to the Allies.
Papua New Guinea goes under naval blockade. Soon the Japanese will be eating rats — or each other.

January 2nd, 1944.
The Japanese carriers with a battleship force sail down to Wewak and prove they're still a nasty force. They sink the supporting Allied battleships, BB Prince of Wales, BB North Carolina, BB Arizona and the cruiser, CA Chester. A destroyer grp. was also sunk.
But! BUT!! Wewak was taken and Allied airpower is established at the base. Still — not worth the price of admission and an error that should not be repeated. If you're thinking of sailing battleships in range of carriers in daylight — don't.
The Soviet Union has joined the Allies and declared war on Japan. ☭
