Dan--Sarcasm only carries so far! [8D]
The Confederates are now 'decisively engaged.'

The potential brilliance of the Confederate plans becomes apparent with this screenshot. We'll see if the Union cooperates...

This is going well so far! Press hard and trap the bluebellies before they can get away!

Union Counter Attack

The Union decisively counterattacks the left portion of the Confederate envelopment and destroys it. I have never seen such exploitation of game mechanics before. Nemo moved groups of 1,000 (max hex loading) men forward, isolated Confederate Regiments, was able to shake off Artillery and Rifle fire without getting disrupted, and Melee'd my troops forcing surrenders left-and-right.
Stunned is the best word I have for the moment. I lost at least 1,500 men (maybe closer to 2,000) with a like amount routed back towards my artillery concentration. I immediately order my troops to NOT attack Cemetery Ridge but sweep around Gettysburg and retreat towards the Seminary.
I still move Heth's boys up to Little Round Top but have to think about a retreat to Seminary Ridge. Won't panic yet but I am...stunned...at what has just taken place.

Wow...that's quite a reverse!
I'm guessing you didn't put partial retreats on?

I've been murdered in a PBEM game by someone using the killer stacks tactics as you have described. I always maintain credible historical lines of no more than two regiments stacks (and then only in an attack situation). If you allow maximum stacking, a single line of regiments can never stand against them, but if both sides stack heavily, you end up with isolated strongpoints for a line that is definitely non-historical.
It appears that you had your units arrayed in a historical fashion like I tend to do... and you got overrun by the huge stacks.
Time for some new house rules as night falls on the battlefield.

I continue the assault due to at least 12-14 Union Regiments routing. I've isolated a little less then 2,000 men near the Apple Orchard as well as killed 3 artillery crews. My intentions are to kill off the troops at the Orchard and then fall back towards Seminary Hill.
We'll see what happens...

Welcome to the AAR Sir!
Nemo throws more forces into an attack. There is a very strong possiblity that I can wipe out another Union Division attacking (in March Formation) at the Peach Orchard...

John, I openend up a thread in the main forum after reading these two AARs to discuss the "gamey" (potentially) play of surrounding units and destroying them that this system encourages. I would love to get some input form people who have actually played the game against humans, and see if
A) Is this really problem,
B) If so, what can be done about it (house rules, or even game changes).
I would love to see your input, if you have time.

Berkut--Thank you. I will jump on it after I do this posting.
Thanks also to you Kingmaker!
As we approach twilight the Confederate attack finishes off the Union troops at Apple Hill. I am pulling troops back as fast as possible but am still thinking about trying hit the lone Union Inf Div on my Right Flank. We'll see if Nemo continues his attack...
I am pretty certain he will...
