The thingabout titansis they NEED that CT. Without it they just don't work. Even if your engine is elsewhere your titan will be disabled if it loses it's CT. That's why you swivel to protect your CT when you fight. Expose it as little as possible.

Yep, destroying the CT portion of the heat reg destroys the reg. No reg, fight is over for that titan.

well if the titans engine is in its rt and still has its ra and head then mabey it could do a sort of hoppy thing with out its ct for a little bit before the heat gets to great and it blows up right?

or mabey if its in the water and it can try to do a sorta 1 arm 1 torso 1 head swim sorta thing........dunno how that'd work though

EDIT: of course its head would be bouncing like a bobble head doll in an earth quake most likely

Realistically speaking, without the support of the CT, the weight of the arms and L/R torso would probably be too much for whatever supports remained. Not to mention all the wiring and electronics in the CT, even if the engine is somewhere else, it won't be able to supply power to all of the parts anymore.

well im speaking like everything but the ra rt and head are gone but i see your point with the internal structure supports and wiring

but still it'd be funny to watch a titan do that :D

Heh, yes it would.

My main concern with the 'Lucky Strike' design is that it's arguably underarmed.

I'm not sure it's got enough firepower to blow away even a single opposing Assault Titan, let alone hold it's own against multiple assailants.

Yeah, for this titan, it seems to be a risky proposition to put it up against another assault titan. If you can get a good position and drop some missiles on the opponent for a while, it'll probably do just fine, but up close, the lasers and mesons aren't going to be enough. Of course, in a team game, this would be a pretty good support titan, too.

Also, from my experience battling with Hetz (and his damnable fetish for Assault/Hell duels) jump jets are pretty much mandatory for an Assault titan.

Otherwise you run the risk of getting badly boxed in. And in armoured warfare, speed is life.

I still see a great preference for big Assault titans in the designs. Am I the only person here who actually likes Light Titans best?

PS: I have just realised that I mispelled 'design' in the thread title. Geez I look like such a freaking noob!

Hell, I thought I was the only one who liked Assaults the best. :)

No kidding! Most of the titans I've seen here are light designs...I was too wondering if I'm the only one interested in the Assault class.

Assaults seem to have something of a bad rep. for many players. I don't quite understand why. For me, it's more challenging to make a good assault titan, one that can stand up to other assaults, than it is to make a good recon or light, for example.

Hmm, maybe because of Hetzer? :D

Ok, I'll admit to a bit of curiousity here, what do you guys think of my designs? I'm proud of them but I'm also their parent. Most of you have faced them and used enough of them to have a feel for the principles that I use when building an Assault. So, here's your chance to praise/carp/bitch or alter what you drive in my Arena's.

You know I've always liked your designs, Hetz - except when I'm facing them. :D

IM BACK!!! After an extended time period where I didn't play ToS at all, I'm now back!! :D

Anyway...

My thoughts on that AC4 design:

I like AC4's... If there's one good alternative for sniping to the Gauss Cannon, its the AC4... The problem, is that if you use all of those AC4's at once, your heat goes through the roof, and you can probably light a forest on fire by standing in it. The other problem, and this is more a matter of opinion, is that AC4's don't do enough damage.

You need to light 5 forests on fire with your heat from firing to take out any portion of a Heavy-Assault Titan. They're really good if you can call shots with perfect accuracy, which means you'd only light 2 forests on fire. But again, they take too long to get any significant impact. They also don't do enough damage to force a pilot check. (I believe the minimum damage is 5 to force a check)

My thoughts on the Meson Gun design:

Meson Guns I've never really liked, no clue why... I think it had to do with their Hellish (literally) heat rating. If you fire 6 of them, you gotta wait for a while after recycling to fire again, which gives your enemy plenty of time to put da smackdown on j00. Meson Guns are good, because even the super armor of the Heavy-Assault (Or korg's Bait designs) can't stand up to it, because Meson ignores external armor. I also like the system disabling aspect of it. But again, that heat problem drags them down. (Though I suppose if you took 8, and took minimum ammo, and just fired only 4 until you ran out then switched to the other 4...)

The other weakness is that they can explode, which is not good with high heat.

Thoughts:

I've made alot of titans, I had success making Titans with buttloads of CLGs, and I also experimented in heavy cannons. I didn't like the AC20, which although it almost always forces a pilot check on a successful hit, also has such a horrid range that the medium-assault titans that can carry them can never get in range to use them.

The better alternative to the AC20 is an array of AC12s. They give off less heat, and have a longer range. AC12 is about the perfect balance of cannon. However, 'Perfect Balance' means just that, Balance. It has average heat, average weight, decent damage, and an average recycle time. It's an all-rounder, not specialized. I like specialized guns, though the AC12 is a good backup.

AC7 I tinkered with, using it in lighter designs. It's the Light-Titan's equivalent of the AC12. It's a little all-rounder, with average damage, average heat, good weight, and good range. Very nice, being as how you can stuff alot of them onto the heavier frames, and it still retains the chance to force a check that the AC4 doesn't have.

That's all for now... I gotta read other threads now :)

The AC4 model (too lazy to check, but I think it's mine)..

The main point of it is to stand in position (preferrably forest) and shoot series of 3 or 4, wait a few secs, fire again, wait...once you get through the last 3 or 4, the first will be available for firing and the heat is almost 0 (5-12 IIRC).

I've caused skill checks with AC4s, though they are pretty rare. I think I also had the best scanner in it, so getting good mods for hit shouldn't be a problem.

In the earlier version of the game (when Gauss didn't take power) I used 5 GC and with 100% Cannons-skill, I could blow a recon to medium mech into dust in a single alpha strike (all aimed weher engine was). Heavy or Assault took 2 or 3 volleys.

i haven't been heard from for awhile but this is a design i came up with based around moving ac 20s fast delivering a blow with the mand moving out again. probably gonna get burnt for posting it again but oh well i like it.

EDIT: this was from the original ToS so i don't know if it'll still work in ToS: WS but you can give it a whirl

TOS is all about tactics. In the open this titan will fail. One on one it might fail. As a brutal support team titan it may make your day.
