Operation Husky Tech Issues

I seem to have a few problems when playing this scenario as Allied against an Axis AI. This happened in v1.00. I have updated to 1.00.07 and the 1.00.08 hotfix and the problems remain:
1. I have set the combat resolution message level to 3 and the Air Execution Phase Detail to High. This works perfectly, but for the first turn only. Immediately after, or on saving/loading when I execute the 2nd and subsequent turns there are no air messages or feedback at all. The combat races through without displaying any combat panel and is over in a minute or less. Despite this it still shows my set levels of 3 and high in preferences. If I manually change them to something else, then back to 3 / High then the subsequent turn works ok but saving / loading again resets them.
2. The results of the amphibious invasion seem to vary hugely between saves but not randomly - it's about 50/50 whether the Allies suffer combat losses of 6000+ with one or both parachute regiments destroyed. If I reload then casualties are much less and the paratroops survive. Reload again, first result. In each case the deployments, air doctrines and targets are exactly the same.
