Mining Stations

Hello All,

Hope all are well!

I was hoping someone could enlighten me on the difference between building a mining station using your construction ship, and choosing to build one by using the icon on the mining location in the New Mining locations list; the one that says private economy expense. Which is better, or in what situation is one better than the other?

Thanks!

If you tell a specific construction ship to build a mining base then that specific construction ship will build the base.

If you just click the button to have a base added to construction queue then the game will pick a construction ship among those that have automation set to either "mining stations" or "fully automate".

I am not sure the extent to which the game considers proximity to the task when selecting a construction ship for a job, but I suspect it is limited. Meaning the construction ship might be on the wrong end of your territory and have to cover a lot of ground to get to the construction task.

Edit: I should add that in my personal view, as someone who likes a fair bit of hands-on control (and who used to play DWU on mostly manual), the lack of an individual order queue for construction ships has made me lazy. I just put them all on fully automated and click the "build stuff here" button.

In the very early game, there might be a point to micromanage but a bit further into the game it just doesn't strike me as being worth the bother. It might be inefficient for the empire, but that is a small price that my underlings are more than happy to pay for my added convenience.

It's been a bit tricky learning the new automation rules because so much of it was changed from the way it was implemented in DWU. Getting the hang of it though.
