Trying understand combat graphics better

Okay, I know:
For an air fight:
Red = Attackers entering
Green = Defenders entering
For ground fight ... this is only conjecture, since I can cannot find a manual entry.
Red = Attacking CU or SU
Green = Defending CU or SU
Black = Attacking dice rolls being escalated up the chain of command
I reached these deductions comparing the post combat reports. The black lines stretch huge distances to far to lend units to combat; thus I assume they are escalated rolls. Also, red lines appeared to fade with subsequent attacks which would be consistent with units in reserve getting spent.
Any tips? Thanks.
