Oceans DLC looking great

Was good to see the announcement today about the coming Oceans DLC. It will really give the planets a different feel. :) Visuals look good as well.

I wish we were getting naval forces as well, but I noticed that the units are still pathing across the oceans. Interested to find out more about interrupting supply lines etc.

Can't wait to get into this.

Cheers

Das

Hmm, so I'm guessing that fitting proper navy gameplay was a too tough nut to crack ?

Not that it's surprising, I don't think *any* planetary 4X manages to make navies work well - and it's even harder for ShEmp with its logistics !

Anyway, can't wait to see the expanded flavour and gameplay options ! (More chokepoints from water bodies ?)
(Might we get more logistics and combat-affecting weather events than just the current seasonal rainfall and ice ?)

P.S.: Yeah, I'm surprised that it isn't listed in Matrix news ??

Curious how the dlc will integrate with the current game.
Will it still be eligible to play on Siwa class and other "regular" planets, where there are still some seas/oceans?
Will it have some sea wildlife? How are the borders gonna act- "international waters"/no mans land? Will it maintain the postapocalyptic melancholy aesthetic of the current game and just add the
"Waterworld" scavanging/mutant feel to it?
Sooo many questions... :D

Interesting things coming ... who knows what kind of living things may dwell, or otherwise, in the oceans!

Are there any additional game play features/mechanics with this DLC that will add some more strategic dept to the game? As the DLC announcement only mentioned Ocean generated planets, and I assuming no navies as that is not in the feature list, this DLC seems a bit feature light for a DLC. Or perhaps some additional updates in the future?

Thanks

There is a feature list in the Matrix news article.
Features:

With Oceania the Procedural Planet Generation can now generate much more diverse Planets
Gaia Planet Class now available
Thalassa Planet Class now available
Proteus Planet Class now available
Fontus Planet Class now available
Maritime Trade House (MTH) mechanics
MTH Stock-trading, Policy Meetings, Dividends & Auctions
MTH Transport, Explore and Makeshift Port Contracts
MTH Naval warfare for sea supremacy
Naval logistical points allow amphibious invasions and transfers

I would disagree. New planet classes and a greater procedural generation system for random planets, amphibious assaults and manoeuvres, a new layer of diplomacy with the maritime trading houses and some naval warfare via this mechanic.
It's gonna be huge

Apparently the maritime system will be managed at a higher level. The AI May be able to do a better job handling this than it does with the air force assets. I still play without air because it tilts the game heavily to the player. This is my favorite game. I play it several hours every day (retired!) And I am excited by all additions and improvements, but they cannot be used if the AI cannot be competitive in their use.

Well, there's always playing by different rules (aka cheating), though this can be tricky to balance (see free(ish?) roads for AI), AND then requires balancing TWO systems.

The entire Logistics system currently requires a road connection to a existing SHQ.
Just undoing that design decision was plenty of work :)

For everyone expecting "D-Day Invasion" to be possible, keep one thing in mind. This entire map:

Fits into a single coastal hex.

Airborn division ... is this is part of the air force or navy implementation? Just wondering if OCEANA is going to provide paratroopers as a new unit type.

AFAIK, there already are Paratroopers.
Just set up a Transport Line into enemy territory, then use Strategic Move to move the troopers there across that line.

Actually the use of Paratroopers in this combat are more like a form of Artillery. A drop that happens during combat resolution.

Oh, nice, maybe now air bridges might enable otherwise disconnected infrastructure ?

While it's *really* nice to have the game heavily based in simulation, gameplay comes fist - if gameplay is better with tactical, "zoomed-in" landing decisions, we should have them. (See also, already in the game : Concentric Bonus.)
