[FIXED] 64 Bit (1328.3A) Lock-Ups, Lag and Freezing

I find that all of the 64 bit versions of CMO that I've tried suffer from general performance issues, including lock-ups, lag, and freezes. This is mostly noticeable when clicking on units and shortly after a scenario is loaded. The peculiar thing is that the Benchmark is faster on the 1328.3A yet this does not translate into "real world" speed.
I have attached the scenario I ran the test on which was modified version of this one here:
https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 3&t=394775
The Benchmarks were done on the RDR scen, as seen here:

I have also linked in a couple of videos (sorry for the poor narration on the second

) from my Google Drive (MKV format) which hopefully demonstrate the differences in gameplay between the versions.

One thing I noticed right away in one of your videos is that your antivirus is at 18% CPU usage. Something weird going on there.

I tried your scenario with 1328.3a on both my i7 and i9. Had nothing like the issues you are seeing. The only I have ever seen close to that is when you have hundreds of AAMs in the air. But even then its no where near that bad.

Thanks for looking into it. It's very strange that both my PC and older as well as less powerful laptop are both affected while neither of yours are. I will say that my laptop doesn't seem to suffer from the situation as badly but still is considerably less smooth than 1307.18.

TempestII, thank you for your report and excellent video. If you disable all the layers in the View menu (or at least all of them except Base Earth), do you still get the freeze when selecting individual units?

Thanks for the suggestion; yes, I can confirm that turning off all layers apart from Base Earth makes the performance much closer to 1307.18 levels, with only a small amount of lag / freezes when clicking on some units. Sentinel and BMNG Maps together certainly cause major lag / freezes and whereas using one at a time reduces it somewhat, but it is still present.

How about if you turn off all layers including Base Earth and turn just the Virtual Earth layer on?
Also, would it be possible for you to post screenshots of your Task Manager - Performance - GPU subtab when running with all layers off, just Virtual Earth on, and Sentinel + BMNG on?

I have been having this problem very long, if i turn off all the layers the game works fine without lag, freezes etc...
I have the same problem with two different computer:
-Laptop:
Windows 11
i5-11400H

I've had a play around with the layers as you suggested and hopefully they give you some answers. The image sizes are too large for the Matrix Forums so I've uploaded them once again to my Google Drive.
Test 1 - Sentinel and BMNG Layers on:

Folder -
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... drive_link
Zip Download -
https://drive.google.com/file/d/18iO0Em ... sp=sharing
Summary - Plenty of lag and freezing, with noticeable spikes in Performance Monitor and Task Manger.
Test 2 - Sentinel layer on:

- 2023-06-18 (25).png (1.31 MiB) Viewed 1538 times
Folder -
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... sp=sharing
Zip Download -
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1YbSzjU ... sp=sharing
Summary - Still some freezing and lag, but less than Test 1. Performance Monitor and Task Manger graphs support this.
Test 3 - BMNG layer on:

- 2023-06-18 (43).png (3.35 MiB) Viewed 1538 times
Folder -
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... sp=sharing
Zip Download -
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1r7aF3B ... sp=sharing
Summary - Possibly the worst performer. The Performance Monitor and Task Manger graph spikes become more like plateaus, especially when zooming in / out. The game also lags and freezes, but strangely not as much as Test 1.
Test 4 - Base Earth on / Nothing on:

- 2023-06-18 (44).png (2.15 MiB) Viewed 1538 times
Folder -
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... sp=sharing
Zip Download -
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1OMFSzR ... sp=sharing
Summary - By far the smoothest performer, both in the real world and on the Performance Monitor and Task Manger graphs.

Please give this new test build (B1328.3b) a try:
https://www.mediafire.com/file/v4zd18uz ... 3b.7z/file
Note that in addition to the exe, there is a file (TileManifest.db3) which needs to be placed inside \WW\Cache\S2CShaded\ . If you unzip the pack into the binaries folder and Command.exe is overwritten, the manifest file should be placed correctly.
Please give it a try and let us know. Thanks.

Thanks Dimitris! I've had a quick test of it and there certainly is a huge improvement. The "super lag" when one clicks on a unit is about 99% gone . The general performance is also much better with less lag and freezes. The build does still stutter more than 1307.18 but certainly far less than 1328.3A.
I do think, as others have said on Discord, that there may be a memory leak or something similar as PC Memory usage does steadily increase up to 90% over time until CMO freezes or crashes. I found this can be fairly quickly brought on my rapidly zooming in and out with the Sentinel and BMNG layers on (I've just tested this on 1307.18 and no crash or slow down happens).

Hi
Much much better from my side as well. But there are room from improvements especially when select units.

Is this also for the steam version ?

Is this still an issue with B1328.5 ?

Hi
The performance is much much better, no lock-ups, no lag and freezing only sometimes a little bit of lag when selecting and unit or zoom in out too quickly (compared to 32bit versions).

Hi Dmitris,
I tried downloading B1328.5 as I did with the previous few versions, but found that the beta was still very laggy for me, with background memory usage still very high even without a scenario running. For example, I just selected an airbase unit and the program pretty much hanged. So as before, I reverted back to the stable build.
I have a pretty reasonable laptop setup (ntel(R) Core(TM) i7-9850H CPU @ 2.60GHz 2.59 GHz, 32.0 GB, Nvidia Quattro
T2000)which is able to handle even larger scenarios under stable 1307.18 quite well, so I don't think it is an issue with my laptop performance.
Is there anything I can do or provide to solve the issue I am facing with the beta?

We're sad to hear that. Can we see:
1) Your exception log
2) Your dxdiag file
3) If possible, a video recording of the UI hang
Also, is the hang consistently reproducible, or happening in random? If the latter, how frequently?

Hi Dimitris,
I redownloaded the beta and somehow it works fine now. The only thing different is I ran another scenario to test (I ran 'A Matter Of Sovereignty in my previous attempt and selecting the airbase made the game very laggy. I suspect the scenario is not compatible with latest beta build as all the aircraft in scenario are now gone). I assumed the I faced the same issue as previous beta builds and just reverted. Steam makes it all easy, lol.
Another thing I did was put the game to run using my graphics card, it was using the integrated graphics card previously as on I didn't see any noticable difference in the stable build whether I used the graphics card or not.
In any case, I gave it a go on other scenarios and it runs pretty well. Hopefully I don't come across any other performance issues, excited to try the features not on stable.
Once again, thanks for your time.
