User Created Scenario files affected by the new Update?

Over the years, I created a number of different maps and scenarios for Campaign Series Middle East. After installing the most recent release, those scenarios no longer work.

The Map, OOB, and Scenarios files are there. Although I can open most of the files, I typically receive an error message when opening the scenario file.

When I launch the specific battle, my units won't move. I receive a "Units cannot move through existing terrain" message.

I assume there must have been a change to the OOBs and some graphic files? For example, the trench files are gone from the scenario files that I created.

Thank you!

Yes, during CS:Vietnam's five-year development (CSME and CSVN now share basically identical EXEs), many new data file fields were added or otherwise shifted around. We tried adding code to achieve backward compatibility, but for sure some things were missed.

Please create a ZIP file bundle with the broken data files. Maybe there are some easy fixes. With luck, we might achieve perfect backward compatibility in the next bug-fix patch.

I tested several AIW scenarios on my system, and everything appears to be WAD. (Another player reports the same.)

Did you perhaps run the CSME v2.30 EXE as an updater, overwriting an earlier installation? If so, your install would now be FUBARed. Please refer to this post

Quoting it here:
Jason Petho wrote: Sat Jul 08, 2023 3:25 am Note, this is not an updater but a remastered full installer. The proper procedure is:
  • Back up the CSME 2.01 installation. [optional]
  • Using Windows Add/Remove Programs, uninstall CSME.
  • In File Explorer, manually delete the old "Campaign Series Middle East" folder, which will be crufty after the uninstall. [important]
  • Run the new installer.
If you don't uninstall the earlier CSME 2.01 first, you are likely to muck things up.
Would that explain it?
