Has anyone ever done a windmill shp and dike shp? I'm designing a scenario in the Netherlands, and could use both. If anyone has this, either post them here, or email them to me at a.absentmindedprof@verizon.net. Thanks!

Eric Maietta

I don't think either has been done...

they are great ideas though. :)

As for the dike...using a hill level would be the best way to portray a dike, unless you want to be able to breach it in the battle. If that's the case then you would probably be looking at a building hex re-formatted to look like natural terrain.

E,
There are some 'roadblock' icons that Rockin Harry made...I believe they're in Ter85 (accessed by hitting the 'a' key while in the map editor). These, along with Orzel's suggestion, would make a convincing dike IMO.

I don't have a windmill icon....will this do for your other suggestion?

:D :D
Sorry...know its not P.C. but....

When placed on a map, would it go on the top or the bottom?:D

OK..."no mas, no mas"...I hear sirens...the 'mod' squad is heading this way!

Eric: I *do* have a windmill icon somewhere; if I find it I'll post it, but how will you distribute it? You'd have to incorporate it into an existing SHP file and then get that to everyone who wants to try the map and/or scenario. It can be done though...just an FYI...

darn I´m a stupid german and don´t understand this joke! :D

as for dikes, If you don´t care for 50 meter wide ones (due to the oversize nature in SPWAW) you can easily make them with the method described by Ken! Other than that I would make (sorry, don´t have the time now ;) ) some new graphics that would give you the impression that the "dike" isn´t that 50 meters/yards wide! Some edits with Freds Map Edit (height/level5, slope and whatever attribute) and you have it!

Hey Jim, if you already have that windmill icon, then you should put it in IMHO! :) It´s still some time before the official Matrix update is out!;)

Harry,
I sent you a PM, 'explaining' my little joke. ;)

I couldn't find my 'windmill', so I'll make another and place it in Ter82 (wooden). Do you know if any icons have been added to Ter82 since I finalized it in June? If you can, please send me the SHP's that you've added icons into so I don't use an 'occupied' slot. Thanks.

I'll get this to Eric as soon as its ready.

How's this? Image If you want any changes, let me know; otherwise I'll do a few more like this one.

Pretty cool...

but wouldn't the icon blend better with a darker shade of mill wheels? The white just contrasts too much IMO...but hey, that's just me. ;)

Actually, they're light-gray...and the bottom one I made a little darker. I didn't even look at a picture of a windmill; I just did this from 'memory'...I guess the windmills in my head have white sails. :D Its a little late right now...I'll try what you suggested in the AM.

Thanks

...three hours of sleep and I'm fresh as a...a....whatever.

I think this one 'blends in' a lot better: Image Room for improvement?

Software?

What are you using to make the buildings?

the windmill looks much better now in my opinion...now all you have to do is throw in some darker texture on the blades so they have a less solid color look ( I see some texture but it's kinda light to my eyes) and it will be ready to go.

HEY! I could get used to this...just dictate via email and let you create the icons! I LIKEY that idea....how about you??? LMAO :D :p ;)

The actual building I cobbled together using 'parts' of other structures...the blades...I did em freehand in PhotoShop (guess you can tell!).

I've heard there are some 3-D programs you can use to make icons, but I don't know their titles.

If you zoom in on the image you'll see I added some dark spots...exactly how dirty do you think they should be? :D

Excellent link Harry...you can get the dimensions and a picture of any windmill. Even has a cross-referenced search function!
