Model Formats?

I just found out about this game and I must say that I'm psyched. I use Alias Maya 5 for 3D modelling, as that is what my school teaches. How difficult/easy will it be to import my models into Starshatter? What formats -3ds, dxf, etc.- work best?

The Starshatter Mod SDK includes a free modeling tool called Magic that supports the game's proprietary model format (.mag). Magic can import files in Wavefront/OBJ format and 3DS format. Between the two, the support for OBJ is much more robust. The final version of Magic included with the retail release can also export .mag files into OBJ format or as Virtual Light scenes for high quality rendering.

I guess that works as well as anything, Maya can import from and export to OBJ quite well. Say, any idea on the release date?

Official announcement for Starshatter release is summer 2004. No exact date or even month is known. Or if someone knows, he don't tell.
