...the B-17G never saw service in the Pacific. We at the CHS are finishing things up. Adding some aircraft, and removing some others.

All my research indicates the B-17G never saw widespread service in the PTO (along with the B-26G). Anyone have any data to support or contest this?

No concrete data, no. But I've always thought that the B-17F was the last variant to see widespread service in the PTO, before everything became B-24 and then B-29...

B-17F was the ast variant according to my sources. Makes the B-17G a wasted slot in all stock and Mod games. Same with B-26G.

It's not wasted if you use PDU's.[;)]

The B-26G is in the same boat also.

I agree. All my sources back that up. The B-17G and the B-26G never served in the PTO.

When I added the ex-ETO bombardment gtoups that were slated for ops in the Pacific to CHS, 17 of the 40 or so bombardment groups are equipped with the B-17G. The data for these groups (numbers, aircraft and arrival dates) were provide to me by someone else ("Blackhorse") so I cannot directly vouch for their accuracy. However if the B-17G was used in the ETO then the data makes sense to me.

Given this, removing the B-17G would also depend on whether, and how accurately, we model the use of the ex-ETO bombardment groups in 1945.

Also, if this use of the B-17G in the Pacific is the only one, then maybe it should have a later arrival date. However I am no expert on aircraft data.

I never managed to uppgrade anything into B-17G or B-26G using PDU. Am I missing something?

Mod scenarios, not stock ones.

Since 90% of the B17G went to Europe to fight the Germans the only logical way I could see maybe 1 or 2 groups getting into the PTO is "after" November 1945 when they would theoretically shift more firepower to contend with Japan.

The game does allow for continuations into March of 1946 which is 6 months longer then history.  Wouldn't it track to see a group or two?  Especially after the ETO having been quiet for nearly a year?  The primary bombers would still be B24's and B29s at that point.  I think the numbers would have been small either way.  I have no numbers to back up the contention here, it just logically makes sense what with the games ability to run "long" after its historical end.  That make sense?[8D]

The CHS group added quite a few Europe based planes to their mod.
Lancaster being the main one.
