Unit name problem

Post by 1LTRambo »

This is a minor problem and doesn't affect game play but is really annoying.

My French 3rd Infantry was disbanded due to low strength. I built a new infantry unit (65th Infantry) and wanted to rename it. The rename only allows 9 characters, thus my unit was named the "3rd Infan". This is bothersome because the game has units with names significantly longer than 9 characters, like "Armee Du Nord" which is 13.

Please consider fixing this for the next update, it should be an easy fix. After all, I would like my "Grand Arm"[X(] to become the "Grande Armee" as it should be.[;)]

I'd appreciate more room for names too. It would help with sorting units and containers.

The problem with longer names is that they spill outside of the boxes. Since we don't use a fixed width font we can hand-pick longer names ("Armee du Nord" is longer, but happens to fit inside the box) -- however allowing players to enter names of any length creates names that spill outside of the boxes. We experimented with truncating longer names, but some testers found this very frustrating (and were convinced that the game was changing their names...)

Ok. So can you at least allow enough characters to fill the box? This would only be an addition of 5 or 6 characters than what is currently allowed.

Nine characters is extremely limiting....

All my armies are now named "Armee du "

I have seen the game change uppercase letters to lowercase on occasions. [;)]
