Hi VCDH,

Thanks for the reply but it does not answer my questions.

Will the stock scenarios play as intended when the patch is released. Or as mikmyk asks and I quote:

"Dale you guys will have rebuilt all the included scenarios by the time the patch flies right"

I believe that these questions can best be answered yes or no. Then an explanation if required.

Regards John

John, can you define what you mean by, "play as intended"? There is a lot of room there for interpretation. To AGSI it may mean the scenarios don't crash the game, to me it may mean that the player can achieve the victory conditions, to you it may mean they play as this did in H2. Refinement of what you mean would help me at least. Thanks!

I think the guy just wants to know if the scenarios that came with the game will work after the patch is installed.

I received a PM from VCDH several hours ago that pretty much answers the question. I replied and said I thought this belonged on the forum and not a pm and asked for a clarification. Have not heard back. Since I believe this is of interest to everyone and he did not ask to keep it confidential I am posting it here with my comments:

Hey man

Sorry I didn't explain it clearer. We have a guy working for us to upgrade an existing battleset for release and he'll work on the others as time goes on. He'll be using a totally new DB that is basically a fixed up version of the original DB. For a couple of reasons (mostly legal) we can't replace the Original DB at this time.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Later
D

What this looks like is that there will be a different db with a handful of original scenarios. Imo, a patch should not be issued unless ALL of the scenarios can be played as intended. There is no room for interpretion. You folks know what is meant. ALL scenarios should be included, not just one battleset, or the patch should not include features that cause the problems. Those features aren't necessary and can be added later. Maybe the legal problems should be solved first.

Honestly don't know what the big deal is either.

This stuff gets a little too goofy sometimes.. Going to find something else to do[:)]

Hi Tony,

Below is my explanation as I posted earlier and above.

Hi All,

So if I have it right...........I have just bought a game, that when patched, will not run the stock scenarios as intended ( I define stock as any scenario that loaded with the install ). Thats quite a problem.

Can you imagine the outcry if developers routinely said " oh, by the way, when you install the patch the stock scenarios won't work properly. I quote "The DBs do not have to have the ability to utilize all of the new features but there are several changes necessary for what we consider the proper preformance of weapons in game." This is sold as a rather accurate game of Naval Warfare but the weapons won't work properly when the patch is installed? Whats the point then?

It seems sensible that stock scenario adjustments be made before releasing the patch.

As a scenario designer of 30-odd scens I would really like to ensure that my scens work with 3.7.3. All my latest scens and many of my older ones have been tested in 3.7.0 but as you can see on XG and Taitenneks Depot only a limited number have been released by me for 3.7.0. That is because in many cases 3.7.0 works quite 'different'  than 3.6.3, and many of my scens rely on features that don't work in 3.7.0 (but that I know are/have been repaired in the patch). Key examples are that I've not been able to release any of my scens using Satelites because these in 3.7.0. don't achieve the altitude required fast enough. Other examples are that I've not released most scens that rely on missions involving shipstrike/groundstrike missions that are aimed at specific targets. With most weopons in 3.7.0. these missions attack any target in range. Another example is that in 3.7.0. planes on ground recon do not take off. In some scens I switched the mission to for example ship recon but only where those do not get distracted by neutral ships.

Again, I know that AGSI are working hard to repair reported bugs and I am hopefull the major bugs will be fixed in 3.7.3.
When the patch publishes I will retest all my scens one by one to verify if they work which for me (only) means all missions, vicconds etc work as intended, but also that they are equally challenging as they were in 3.6.3.
This testing is a huge amount of work for me which I will gladly do (as I'm sure will all other designers).

I hope for some support from AGSI specifically in not needing to update scens too often. I use PDB for a couple of reasons but the one overriding one is that when PDB makes changes they don't generally mean I need to retest old scens which was NOT the case for some DBs. And yes I'm a bit concerned reading about signatures, licences etc but I'll wait and see.
