An auspicious beginning

Post by Leto II »

Hopefully this forum will see use and not be forever barren, so I thought that perhaps a start was in order.

In my experience, the bulk of a game's strength, as it pertains to the community, is held by those who play in multiplayer. While this observation might not hold as much truth with SPWAW as it does in other genres, I have the feeling that in order to learn and excel in this game multiplay becomes almost a necessity.

No AI (short of a true artificial consciousness) can provide the level of challenge, tension, jubilee in victory and angst in defeat that multiplay can accomplish so effortlessly.

Hopefully, as new players become accustomed to SP, they will come here to seek out that next level of challenge and enjoyment. I count myself amoung them, as I am playing my first PBEM game at this moment (which will most definately not be my last).

Let us hope that this forum will facilitate such contact and provide both those who are veterans to PBEM play and those thinking about deploying into their first battle against a thinking opponant with unparalleled hours of ecstatic nail biting.

:)

There are many Combat Command members out there itching for a battle and I'm one of them Leto II. Show me what you can do! Email me at drexelr@earthlink.net and lets work out the details.

humans are much better opponents

I guess I didn't realize there were people who only wanna play the AI. A human opponent can be sooo unpredictable. After playing head to head I can't play the AI anymore. I guess I'm a competition junkie. But if you German players wanna fight my glorious Soviets, PBEM. with everything on including CC, bring it. I prefer advance/delays or assault/defend to meeting engagements. And somewhere between 10%-15% for arty, but not a must. no cheaters please. I'm here at sfam@cros.net

You should be able to find all the info you need to set up and play a game in the manual. I can not remember the exact pages but I think they start around page 60 and go to page 80.

I always kick the **** out of the AI (In generated battle). Not much fun in that. It is very easy to predict the troops they will be bringing and the way in which they will use them.

On the other hand, I am involved in a PBEM game in which my opponent bought a lot of P-51's. Oops, wasn't expecting that, and they destroyed every vehicle I had. The unpredictability is what makes human opponents fun.

If you haven't tried multiplayer, you don't know what you are missing.
