Air Support

Post by 06 Maestro »

After HQ activation and hitting the proceed arrow, I get a prompt "Are you sure you completed air support?". I have 5 air units allocated to the western front, but see nothing about being able to allocate an air unit for anything.
An I missing something here, or is some function added latter in the war?

Depending on how the air-to-air combat went, you may have a few air units that can recon enemy hexes and this gives you info about the units in the hex and increases the effectiveness of any artillery fire into the hex. Just click on a hex that you want info on or are planning to barrage that turn.

nope it's in there from the start.

You get a certain number of hexes you can look at due to air support - the number depends on things like how many air units you have allocated to the front and enemy air unit allocation later when yuo can actually have combat andf some of yours might get shot down!

Click on an enemy stack during the activation phase an you will get to see what is in it.  also artillery fire is much more effective at stacks you have looked at.  You can also look at empty hexes jsut to be sure they are empty if you want - I occasionally found enemy units I didn't know were there otherwise.

IIRC the little message that comes up when you click on an anemy hex counts down to 1, so you know how many more you can look at that turn.

This threw me for a couple of turns too.  I've only gotten through the first winter thus far, but if you click on an enemy hex/stack/unit, you will get the opportunity to recon that hex.

Thanks for the info.

It may be interesting to some; I have 5 air units allocated to the western front, but zero recon ability (by air). On the Eastern Front, I have only one German air unit, but have recon choices up and down the line-(only one pick though). Apparently, the TE air forces cancell out the German air units on the Western Front.

Appreciate the explanation.

When I was confronted with the "Are you sure you completed air support?," I assumed I had to do some muscle stretching finger gymnastic-like multi-key press function to activate air support. Good to know.

IIRC opposing air support does NOT negate your own air support - I think it works on a % basis for each air point you have up - so yes sometimes 1 point on the east front will get you 1 "hit" and 10 on the Western Front will get you zip.......but usually you'll get more where you ahve more a/c.

Later when tech levels get higher you will start losing a/c, and that will cut down your air support because you will have fewer a/c left to do it after strategic phase air combat.

Again, thanks for the info.

I'm looking forward to seeing the effects of advancemnts in CP air techs-assuming the war lasts that long..
