Strange replacement for injured pitcher

Post by acm14850 »

Leeper, the starting pitcher, sustained an injury after throwing 12 pitches. (This is about the 7th time in 50 or so games that the starting pitcher has been injured in the first inning, but that's not the problem I'm posting.) The AI replaced him with Olivares, which would ordinarily not be a bad choice, except that in the game before, Olivares had replaced another injured starting pitcher in the first inning and thrown 113 pitches (see following post in this thread). In this game, Olivares threw four pitches, all balls, and was then replaced by another pitcher. So why did the AI bring him in in the first place??

Good bug report.

I'd also like to second the motion that pitcher injuries in the first few innings do seem to happen much more than they do in real life, so maybe this is something to look at.

And when a pitcher does get injured, even if he would normally get the win, the win seems to be going to the relief pitcher.

I do believe that if the pitcher is injured in the 1st round, he wouldn't be eligible for the win; especially if the game was just under way.

You are right, FS. A starting pitcher has to complete 5 innings in order to be eligible for a win
