Release date?

From the legendary team at 2 by 3 Games comes a new grand strategy masterpiece: Gary Grigsby’s War Between the States. Taking gamers back to the American Civil War, this innovative grand strategy game allows players to experience the trials and tribulations of the role of commander-in-chief for either side. Historically accurate, detailed and finely balanced for realistic gameplay, War Between the States is also easy to play and does not take months to finish.

Release date?

Know you guys won't be specific (although feel free to be if you so wish...) :)

Any idea on this? Is it a 2007 title?

I really doubt this is a 2007 title. We hoped it would be, but we had some delays this summer (not so much problems with the game, but problems getting enough programmer time to finish what was left to be done). Our to do list is reasonably short, but I just don't see us being able to get this done by early December. Usually the publication window closes sometime in December and reopens in February. My money is on February, but I've been wrong before.

So does it look like a February 2008 date is still realistic?

Unfortunately, I don't think so. Keith hasn't been able to make the progress that we were hoping for on his list (his baby and day job are keeping him from getting much time in on WBTS). At this point I should stop making predictions until we see the progress. The good news is that the parts of the game that Gary works on continues to get better while we wait for Keith (we've found and fixed bugs and improved game play and balance).

You said you are improving game play and balance......Will there be a historical type scenario.....after all it was not a "balanced" war....Regards, Hank

He means balanced in that both sides can meet their victory conditions. There is no way the CSA can actually conquer the Union.

Personally, I find which ever side I am playing to be poorly balanced. Couldn't have anything to do with my lack of skill. [:)]

I've never met a Grisgby game I didn't like, but w/the award winning AACW and FoF also distributed by Matrix games, what is Gary's "War Between the States" going to do for an encore?

By the looks of it, I think it has its niche among the three:

- FoF: tactical battles, detailed (if still somewhat "gamey"/abstracted) economy
- AACW: very detailed organizational/operational/strategic
- GGWBtS: strategic level, I would guess it plays faster than either of the other two ("ACW-in-a-day-or-two")? Knowing Grigsby's games, that of course does not mean less deep. [8D]

I look forward, as a player, to the elegant design of World at War refactored (cleverly as expected ;) ) into WBTS. Also the scale and scope of the game will make it perfect for quick PBEM games.

Sounds like a great title to me as well.

I am really hoping you people are correct....I am strictly a "War of Northern Aggression" wargamer and so have not owned any of Mr. Grigsby's products.....I have high hopes for this one.....OK, I'll ask....any update on possibly when we might tentatively expect this game to hit the market?

I lost my bet on February. It's looking like late Spring, early Summer at this point, but it very much depends on how much time we can get from Keith to finish the dozen or so items that he has left to do.

Keith has half of his remaining dozen items done, and is working this weekend. Once he's done, it will probably take around 2 months to get the game out. We hope he'll be done soon, but can't say exactly when that will be.

I recently read an article about Dr Snitzelbrow's study into turn based strategy game release dates.  He found that the majority that were released in the month of May were not only better received by the community and higher rated in reviews but actually increased in sales.  Go figure.
Will insert when I come up with something witty
