Some Newbie questions

Empires in Arms is the computer version of Australian Design Group classic board game. Empires in Arms is a seven player game of grand strategy set during the Napoleonic period of 1805-1815. The unit scale is corps level with full diplomatic options

Just a few musings on the subject.

I think that it is 6 units to make Gibraltar "fully garrisoned" since it is a for a two spire (10 unit) city.

Also, other than for GB and TU (who can't do it), I like to buy some Inf and Mil each Econ Phase. This contantly brings in reinforcements. I, of course, really like Mil, so this fits my strategy.

Finally, for most armies, I tend to have one or two mil in corps to take for forage losses or detaching duties when a city is taken. You can often get away with lots of these mil going in and out of a corps with little inf or cav loss, especially with minor corps around to take the losses.

I would never normally build militia as Britain (you have the cash to spare, and your 4.5 morale infantry is WAY better than your 2.0 morale militia) ...
I agree with your whole post, except this line. As GB, I actually buy five militia in every game. These five are built in March, 1805 and are added to a corps counter in Gibraltar in April. Then, they are detached into the city, where they stay for the rest of the game.

The reason for this is that Gibraltar has three fletches. So, IF it is fully garrisoned, it is impregnable. Gibraltar is a 2-spire city, holding 10 troops. In order to be fully-garrisoned, it needs five factors to make it impregnable.

Now, since GB never really expects to USE these factors in combat, they can safely be militia.

In the old rules, one might have purchased a few militia factors for garrisoning conquered minors, too. However, that was when you could turn your militia into infantry by paying for them and waiting 3 months.

I typically have a militia in every corps - sometimes two! I do this even if I could have afforded infantry - the money comes in useful elsewhere.
They are for detaching, or forage losses - whatever comes up, and of course are the first to die in battle.

heheh, I'm gonna contradict the developer [:'(]

If you bring up your home country screen (3rd button along the top), in that screen it shows you all your conquered minors and minor free states. If you then click on the name of that minor, it will jump to that minors location on the map. A very handy feature that I'm guessing Marshall was not responsible for coding [;)]

Cheers,

OK, Marshall.

Here is an enhancement idea for the very long term.  Change the interface from SDI to MDI.

I run two monitors.  I would like to leave the windows open, but without covering the playing area.  One way to acheive this would be to run MDI.  (In non-technical terms this means that each window can be moved anywhere, completely separate from the main playing window).

I appreciate this is a big project and isn't going to happen in the short term, but I thought I'd mention it.

Turkey has finally surrendered unconditionally to me (Austria) - Frustrating that I had to take Constantinople before the AI would do it, but hey, a human player wouldn't be losing to me.

Wallachia, Bosnia and Serbia have all been ceded to me, have the orange hashing to show they have been conquered by me and appear orange (conquered) in the big map.  However when I click on them, the "Selected Nation" box still shows them as being Turkish and my manpower rate at the top hasn't changed.  Am I missing something?

Here's 11.4.1, under the "Assault attempt modifiers" section, second bullet:
Undergarrisoned: “+1” is added if the city is not garrisoned to within 5 factors of the city’s garrison capacity. For example, if the garrison capacity is 15, one will be added if there are 9 or less factors in the city.
At LAST! The greatest campaign board game of all time is finally available for the PC. Can my old heart stand the strain?

Mantzikert - what you see is expected. Wait to the eco phase, where you should see them being added in.
