BOOO MATRIX!

Post by brodieman687 »

I don't understand how this game can have so many problems. I buy it and try it on my computer. The disk simply spins and is not recognized as a game in my DVD drive. I shake it off and go to my friend's and use his laptop. It installs (after about 20 minutes of the computer struggling to recognize its existence), and when I try to run it, I get the vertex and pixel shading error. I update my drivers and direct X and it still does not work. I finally come on here and find that you have to get some weird 3rd party program totally unrelated to matrixgames to install onto your computer and have it do who knows what in order to bypass that problem. I follow the directions, then it says I have a faulty serial number (probably a result of a miscommunication between the 3rd party software and your game). Once I figure this one out, by trying a different EXE file, I get into the game. On the first mission, when my unit dies, the game continues running, except all i can do is target things with my dead units' gun. I can't even abort or give them their turn. For a company that basically copied X-Com's genious, which I don't mind, because I wanted to play it again, matrixgames sure has screwed up every possible place they could. I will return this game within the week.

DVD? You must be talking about the Tri Synergy version as the Matrix CD on demand is 3CDs. I’m not sure how much I can help you with the DVD side, my unprofessional tech support guess is that something with the burn process of the DVDs and your machine’s ability to read it. The video issues have been well documented in this forum http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1451384 as for the lock-up with targeting I can only suggest that you make sure you’ve patched up to the latest version to make sure that wasn’t addressed in a patch. I haven’t seen the problem mentioned anywhere else on the forum.

I’m sorry to hear about the trouble you are having and hope this helps.

Hi Brodieman,

If you bought it from a retail store, then it wasn't our release but rather the TriSynergy version.

Second, the only reason you would be having those issues is if your hardware did not meet the minimum required spec which as far as I know is printed on all boxed versions. The third party software is a work-around provided to those who are brave enough to try it, it doesn't change the fact that the game was not designed to run on hardware that didn't support those functions.

It's a different publisher - they did the retail version, we did the online version. With that said, if your hardware doesn't support the game's minimum requirements, regardless of where you got the game you have only a few choices:

1. Find a way to get one of the work-arounds to work for you, keeping in mind that the game is not supposed to work on your hardware so it's probably not going to be easy or straightforward to get it to do so
2. Return the game to the store you bought it at
3. Upgrade your hardware (a compatible dedicated video card can be had for about the same price as this game if you shop around)

fyi I have the DVD version.  If you are on Vista it could take upwards of 30 mins for Vista to scan the entire multi-gb installer file before it finally opens it up.  At least this was my experience.  (boo to whomever decided to make the installer exe so big instead of making a small installer with a big data file).  So if you're on vista, try double-clicking the setup exe then surf the internet for a while

also...the developer of the game was Chaos Concepts.

fair enough, im not sure who's to blame for all the glitches and running problems, but its kind of weird that there are different versions in the stores and sold online. Why was that the decision.

no they are the same version.  only possible difference would be copy protection.  different publishers put different CP on a game.  But anyway I think the point in this thread is you shouldn't come here BOO'ing Matrix if you bought the game from a different publisher since Matrix would have had nothing to do with it. ;)
