Question on the Logistics

Goodaye,

I'm looking at this game as a possible purchase and I've noticed a few comments in other threads indicating that it has a good logistics model.

Is anyone able to expand a little on how that works? As a reference point I own and play GalCiv2 and used to play SEIV.

There is no logistics model.  There is a financial model which very much resembles Murphy's law of thermodynamics - everything takes longer and costs more.
 
Basically there is no industrial "production" as you knew it in Space Empires.  Instead there is money.  Money buys everything.  The buildings are just where things are produced.   Production of anything costs less on rich worlds and more on poor worlds.  You can build mines which artificially change the mineral wealth of worlds.  Plus tax revenues are higher on rich worlds and lower on poor ones, etc.
 
And anything you build comes with on-going maintenance expenses.  Those are about 20% of default construction costs for ships - I don't know if that is any different for buildings or local defenses.  These maintenance expenses can eat you alive so don't colonize or conquer poor worlds.  If an enemy has a colony on a poor world, just nuke it from orbit.
 
Also treaties with AI empires produce a lot of income, but those will be broken when war is declared, so be careful not to declare war on AI empires whose allies are paying you a lot of money or you'll be in a world of hurt financially.  And don't go to war unless your treasury is pretty flush.

Oh yeah, you have to be careful with your money in this game and how you spend it. Sure a fleet of 30 fleet carriers sounds good but the maintenance costs will cripple your economy pretty fast as I have learned. Unless you do have a strong economy to support a fleet like that, it certainly is possible. Me, I get to excited about this kind of stuff and end up going broke from selecting several planets and placing orders for several capital ships at one time. Wow, I can build all of these, well what about when they are built? Can I afford the maintenance costs for all those vessels now? [X(] First problem, then second problem, what about all of the money I just spent on construction costs to actually buy each ship? Looks like I will be in the negative pretty quick. This is the recipe for my economic failure at times and lately I am getting good at this. In fact, my first few games I done a lot better then in my current game where I over spent and put my economy in ruins. Some ships are very expensive to maintain not to mention that even some planetary structures add up too.
