Just how did you Europeans get this nonsensical "VAT" tax anyway?  Also.. how did you let this happen?

Same way you guys let your likewise nonsensical Sales Tax happen I would guess....

Here in the U.S., sales tax is set by the state, not the federal government (so far at least). The amount varies from state to state.

The neat thing about living in the US though if you buy out of your state you don't have to pay any sales taxes. But, I've been reading they are trying to take even that away from us as some states are starting to impose it and some sites like Direct 2 Drive charge a sales tax. I try to find bargains that have no sales tax and free shipping and Newegg so far has been the best place for that.

My state is one that is trying to collect sales tax from internet sales. Some web stores collect it and some don't. I don't feel it should have any more right collecting sales tax on internet sales than it does when its citizens go across the state line and make a purchase there. To be honest, I was quite pleased when NewEgg quit collecting sales tax.

It's only a matter of time though Greybriar you know if there is a $ to be made by our (can't say it on this site cause Erik gets all upset haha) then they will impose it. I'm still trying to figure out how they can impose a tax on the resale of a used car over and over when the taxes were paid on the initial purchase?

I know that, but the comment was not about the way the level of the tax was decided or how it was collected, but more to the point of stating that VAT and Sales Tax are conceptually identical. NefariousKoel made a very generic statement, and I gave a likewise generic reply [:)]

Anyone taking bets on when this thread will be closed? [:'(]

I agree with that one, same with estate taxes. I will stop there, because I can feel a RANT coming on. [:)]

And here's another post I found somewhere on a forum, a guy who lives in London:

"I was about to order it but I found that the attractive £17.99 price on the Matrix Games website has gone up to £43.02 by the time I get to the checkout.

This is because the cheeky sods not only want another £6 from me for the privilege of sending me a CD rather than a one-off digital download, but they also added shipping, VAT and a completely unexplained "processing fee" of £9.

So while the game looks great I don't think I will be buying it from that route because they have basically lied 4 different ways about the price of the product.

Anywhere else I can get the game?"

So I'm thinking, *if* you could make it ... less expensive to order a game for customers who live in Europe, sales might go up... say 20 percent? I know I would buy more games for sure.

I don't know where he got that "processing" fee from...I've never had to pay it. A DD £17.99 will cost someone in the UK £20.70 - that's it. If you're going for the physical option, then you would pay in the region of £25, depending on what the postage is. I really have no clue where £43 came from...even if you factor in this apparent £9 processing fee!

I pay for the game with the understanding that there is an extra £5 for the box, cd and manual (if there is one) and a postage fee (which is minimal) and VAT.

As a rule of thumb, I get the boxed version if there is a decent manual. If there is a "minimal" manual or no manual at all, I get DD.

I really don't understand what the problem is. Without blowing smoke up Matrix arse, they give more options for a purchase than other wargaming companies. And their copy protection is the least intrusive to boot. [8|]
