Still puzzle based?

Post by jjdenver »

Hi,

I read from several posters on various forums that the initial BA release had many scenarios that were akin to puzzles - i.e. there was not a lot of tactical flexibility and because of the setup or force mix or time limit (don't recall which) there were some specific strategies to be followed to win a lot of the scenarios.

Has this changed as more releases hit (not sure even how many expansions there are now - 1 or 2) and user made campaigns show up (not even sure if there are any user made campaigns yet)?

I could ask this on another forum but thought I'd come here for the straight scoop.

Thanks

Hi

Although I've not extensively played the single player campaigns - more into multiplayer - I would say that the 3 campaigns in the initial release (Normandy, Bulge & North Africa) all play quite differently (confined bocage vs open desert) and the scenarios in each campaign are quite diverse.

The emphasis is on armour rather than infantry - though there are a few infantry heavy maps.

With force composition - there is some flexibility in a lot of the maps as you do select all/some of your units. Also some of the maps have randomised enemy forces to keep you guessing.

Currently there is 1 expansion - Blitzkrieg France - and there are a number of user made campaigns covering different WWII theatres, e.g. Western Europe, North Africa & Pacific, as well as a WWI campaign. Once again they all play quite differently with quite a bit of scope on how to approach them.

In the games I've played - and I've been playing since it released - I've not felt there was a set formula I could use to win.

Cheers
