The Wargamer's Tournament - we're playing Conflict of Heroes!!!

This exciting new release is a faithful adaptation of the renowned Conflict of Heroes board game that won the Origins Historical Game of the Year, Charles Roberts Wargame of the Year and the James F. Dunnigan Design Elegance Award, as well as many others!

Designed and developed in cooperation with Uwe Eickert, the original designer of Conflict of Heroes, and Western Civlization Software, the award-winning computer wargame studio, no effort has been spared to bring the outstanding Conflict of Heroes gameplay to the computer. Conflict of Heroes includes an AI opponent as well as full multiplayer support with an integrated forum and game lobby. To remain true to the core gameplay of the board game, the PC version is designed to be fun, fast and easy to play, though hard to master. The game design is also historically accurate and teaches and rewards platoon and company-level combined arms tactics without overwhelming the player with rules.

I'm really enjoying the tournament so far.  My first match as the Russians I won but I felt entirely outplayed the first turns.  With judicious use of cards and a little bit of luck was able to turn it around.  In the second game when I was axis, my opponent insta-killed two of my units with his first two shots!  Thankfully, I think half of his units were questionably placed and he failed to appreciate the power of group fire with 4 LMGs so I was able to knock out half his units in the first two rounds which put him on his back foot with which he never was truly able to recover from.  Both games were very different than any game I had ever played against the AI so it was fun!

How did you group fire with 4 LMGs?
Conflict of Heroes "Most games are like checkers or chess and some have dice and cards involved too. This game plays like checkers but you think like chess and the dice and cards can change everything in real time."

IIRC :... only the units left and right of the 'fire leader' of a group adding +1 bonus ...and all three have to have LOS
so i thought that 3 units is the max, even so there may be more in the group

(...but if contiguous means that all the units that are direct-connected to the fire leaders hex ... a group of 7, providing a +6 Bonus in an open field environment (LOS) could be possible? ... will test that.

btw: i am having a blast participating in the International (one honorable opponent +6h ours, the other -6hours, so far) Tournament.[:)]
against a human its so much different then against the AI [8D]

I wonder if a "tournament" mode would make sense for the future, where each side gets the same set of pre-determined cards through the scenarios. I think once you get to that point though, you also need to remove the variable quality and use scenarios that are internally mirrored as far as forces and terrain. It would minimize luck, but might be a bit less interesting. I think the solution Curtis came up with of playing it once from each side is a reasonable one overall given that there are a lot of variables at work.

I think the luck system of the game is ok for a tournament.
Only the random quality rule is sometimes irritating. I think we should play without.

I would like to play in a league.
Every Scenario with flipping sides.
But then, we must have more than one scenario.

I think tournament or leagues can help to create a solid community.
At the moment it is difficult the get a quick game, because the lobby is often empty.

You're right Mike. You have to think in more than one dimension. Without stacking, you could feasibly group 7 units (one in the middle, six adjacent). With stacking of course it could be much higher. The trick of course is to make sure you select the middle unit as the firing leader.

Edited because I can't count how many sides a hex has. :)
