Am I the only one getting crashes on changing theme?

It happens to me about 20% of the time (if anything, 20% is an underestimate). Just happened before this post. Tried to play ancient galaxy. Game crashes while changing theme. There was no crashdump.txt created for this crash.

I suspect from the bugs I've seen reported that this is only me, which suggests it's a problem with my set up.

I'd appreciate help sorting it out, because it's just starting to get kind of, old (particularly as each game start or change theme tends to take 1-2 minutes).

Do you have a crash report?

From the sticky on reporting bugs, it is in (adjust for version number):

Windows 7:

C:\Users\XXXXXX\AppData\Roaming\Code Force Limited\Distant Worlds\1.9.0.0

Replace the XXXXX with your username and the version with your version number.

File is DWcrashlog or something like that, there are just a couple of files and the savegame folder there apart from the correct one.

No, the last crash did not create a crash report. It happened a few minutes before I posted, but my previous crash report was from yesterday.

I have never been able to change theme without - after a few minutes of trying - having the game crash on me.

No crash text is ever generated, just get the standard Windows "The program has stopped working" message.

Game crashed on first change of the theme for me as well. But second and third change was without crash.

The only time i'm observing this issue is when i try to load a theme that is missing a key file, such as a weapon image.

I get this bug even when switching from 'default' to 'ancient', so it's probably not to do with any key files being missing. I have uninstalled and reinstalled DW to no avail.

This is no dounbt a conflict specific to my system (and a few others by the sound of it), but I am unable to determine how to fix it, and indeed it may not be fixable at my end.

I'm happy to provide further information, if I can. Obviously a save game is not going to help, because it happens at the main maenu when outside of a specific game.

Actually I've seen a load of wonky behavior when changing themes. And gods help me if I load a save from one theme and then try loading a save that uses a different theme. Doesn't necessarily crash the game but it sure doesn't like to load properly either. As I recall, it's generally a JIT warning about some variable that is out of range.

And another thing that happens whenever I load a new theme is that my settings are defaulted. Music is turned back on, background star density is turned way up, zoom moves the mouse, and the message settings seem to be defaulted. Not too big a deal once you know about it but it's surprising the first time you run into it.

It means that there is something wrong with the mod you are changing to... at least that is what happens to me when I change over to a mod that has an error...

Not unless you are saying that there is something wrong with the default theme or the ancient galaxy theme - see my post 7 above.

Incidentally, since playing the 1.9.5.2 beta, the game seems more stable in this respect. I don't know whether anything was modified which would affect changing themes, but I just tried changing between various themes about ten times without any errors. Fingers crossed ...
