I play a multitude of things. At 64 years old I think my gaming days are getting slimmer. I just can't find anything interesting.
....

Yeah at 64 I'm in a rut for gaming. Might be due to my age as they sure don't cater gaming to my age group! Ha!

FWIW I'm 65 and not in any rut.

Just picked up WoW Legion and having a great time with it. Best expansion in years and I've played them all.
Just got SC WWII WiE and only scratched the surface but it looks good.
Got Drive on Moscow when it first came out. Good game and I'll come back to it soon.
Love DC: Barbarossa. Lots of play left in that one.
Got Endless Space 2 in early access on Steam. Waiting for it to get fleshed out more before playing it.
Just bought SOW Gettysburg Anniversary Collection on sale. Liking it so far.

So many good games, so little time. My sig says it all. [:)]

Any advice on not staying or getting into a rut? I don't want to hijack this thread, but I get bored too fast anymore with most games. It's a shame too because I have over 60 Matrix games and almost 400 on Steam. Then there are the many others I have collected through the years besides those. I have all the big Matrix games too! I end up buying more games, hoping they will capture my attention enough to play. THAT is a rut.

At some point I get tired of a game and put it aside. First, I always go back and look through my collection to see if anything strikes me as interesting again. Often times that will work and I avoid buying another game. But there are certainly times when nothing looks good and I end up buying something new. Nothing wrong with that IMHO. I have more money than time and worry more about putting a lot of time into something that ends up not being much fun. As far as the money goes, I'm just spending my kids inheritance at this point! When I get into a gaming rut I take a few weeks off from playing. I increase my reading, work on my postal history (stamp, cover, post card collection) and my music history and listening. After that the gaming bug most always returns. [:)]

Well thank you Matrix for drawing up a sale intended just for a guy like me. A lot of these games I don't have. So it's similar as being a kid in the candy store!

I can even get the boxed version.

I do this a lot and look back and think, "OK, which games did I finish and which games did I not finish?" And then even some games I finished, I play again, because I have an itch. This is a major reason why I talk myself out of buying games. Because I have a lot of games I never finished.

For the tabletop evenings I'm going to buy "Churchill" by GMT.

For the PC... dunno. Right now I'm happy with the games I have and I don't see anything really "yummy!" on the horizon. I'm not burned out, I'm simply happy with my current stack of (very replayable) games - both for the table and the screen.

"Churchill" is a great looking game..."Churchill is NOT a wargame, but a political conflict of cooperation and competition." Boy it must have sold out fast, a second printing is in the works. It's also highly rated for Solitaire play...[:)] Thanks for the heads up!

I recently got Mount & Blade Viking Conquest Reforged and it's been a lot of fun so far.

It's totally different from Mount and Blade Warband vanilla. Lot's of Factions and lots of resources and quests and surprises.. There's even a place ana guy you have to guess his riddles to get a Prize. Quite different from your regular run of the mill games of same ole same ole. I can't put it down atm.(Just took a break to come tell you about it.)

I usually don't like anything first person shooter types but this one is different in that it uses swords and axes and knives and shields and spears and bows and arrows and so much more. You literally have to fight for your life in every battle and you can make those side step hit em in the back moves sometimes and this one allows you to chop their heads off if you hit em just right.[:'(]

You also can just command and control your whole army and don't have to fight at all. It has complex unit placements and formations and you can tell them what to do and when up to 10 command slots to setup and choose from. It's a commanders dream game next to Command Ops I think.

You'll need the base game Mount and Blade Warband as this is more of a Mod than a full stand alone game. You can get both for about $10 or less during the Holiday sales.

I can't stress the different game that Gremlins Inc. is as well. It's a board game converted to PC and the AI is ruthless in it and the multiplayer is actually fun to participate in and I hadn't participated in an online multiplayer game other than MMO's since the Age of Empires game.

If you like games of skill vs random die rolls and RNG then get Conquest Medieval by Slitherine here. Plays like a chess game with a twist and uses Medieval playing pieces of varying power and a rock paper scissors type play and where supply lines to your units matter.

Sometimes it just takes a change of scenery to get out of that rut and these games really do it for me. Perhaps they can for you also. [;)]

All of these games listed should be under $10 during the holidays. Pick em all up for the price of one Slitherine regular priced game. [:D]

as far as wargames go a good read of a battle at the scale i like for a few days or weeks gets me back into the swing, throw in a good war movie also. Also watching some lets plays or reading AAR's helps me out of the rut.

Watching some old episodes of "Combat" and "Rat Patrol" can get you back in the mood as well. Albeit mostly tactical wargames.

This year I've bought bunch of games and played only about half of them, many of them just handful of hours. Right now I spend hours a day with Civ4: BTS Caveman 2 Cosmos. One more turn...
And then I bought Kick Ass Commandos (looks too much fun to let sale pass by) and XCOM: Enemy Unknown Complete Pack (somebody's looking MP for it and sale is too good to pass by). [8|]

Also I'm gonna buy Stardew Valley, likely 2 copies (1 is gift to my little sister), and maybe Gears of War 4 (gift to my little brother).
You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

...one Google search later and now I'm loading Civ 4 back on the 'ol hard drive. The one thing I really missed from Civ V was all the crazy total overhaul mods for Civ IV and prior games. Caveman 2 Cosmos looks amazing, 700+ techs [X(], starting from literally nothing, one game can take 100+ hours...it's like Civilization: But For Real This Time.

At longest mod delivers 14k turns. On CivFanatics forum is told people have played PBEM for 2 years. One more turn, man, just one more turn! [:D]

Oh my God! Gary Grigsby’s War in the Pacific - Admiral’s Edition is on sale for half price. I wonder if I would even have the time to play it if I bought it? [&:]

I believe his WitW is on sale also.
