Why are my people starving when I have heaps of food?

I tried to attach a screenshot but somehow a 700k file is too large? WTF..

As I wish I could demonstrate via screenshot I have plenty of food and have had for the last number of rounds but hunger keeps increasing in my main capital zone. Whats going on?

Citizens cannot access your food stores if you do not enable througu your region governor to give them food support.

It is so because citizens cannot access public food stores that you have and they will have to purchase food from the private market which is kinda difficult if you nationalized the starting farm.

Thank you for your help.

Ive wondered where the constant revolts and unrest has come from. Now I know. Seems pretty silly it was because I didnt tick a box.

Most of the time it shouldn't be a factor, at least it hasn't in my games. The private sector/AI highly prioritizes making agricultural assets, so can usually feed itself. Where I have seen private citizens go hungry is when I set up a new zone that has nothing for the citizens initially.

Somewhere on this forum someone advised to never nationalize ag assets (in case that's the problem). That's been good advice for me.

I wonder if you could keep the people fed if you nationalized the farms, but made sure to sell food on the market every turn.

Private (Emergency) food distribution is off by default. Talk to each Governor to change.

I think it depends on how quickly your population grows, too. In my previous game, I never noticed my citizens needing emergency food (though I ticked the box, anyway). But in my current game, I'm just beginning, but my population has grown really, really fast (thanks to some beneficial stratagems). And wow! I've been handing out tons of emergency food!

The private economy started with a domed farm and did build another one, but I think the population influx just overwhelmed that. So I had to prioritize building my own farms.

It's always something, huh? Lots of fun! [:)]
