What does the asterisk indicate next to a skill?

I've noticed its there for some characters and not others. Eg. an Asterisk on Administration.

It means the skill is used in the job the leader is assigned to.

When you mouse over the skill, it will tell you that it has X unspent usage points. As far as I know, they are automatically used in combination with XP to increase the skill.

The manual says it means the skill was used recently.

All three answers were correct. When leaders use their skills, they gain usage points in them. When they have usage points in a skill, it displays the asterisk.
At the start of each turn, leaders spend their XP to try to increase their skills and the ones with usage points are the most likely to get increased (as far as I understood it).

Nah, it just means it was used.
Look at one of your leaders' stats, then use them to play a stratagem and check their stats again.
It'll then say this:

It doesn't necessarily lead to skill increases, but it means the leader will try to raise it later.

It means "the leader can use XP to level it up".
If the start vanishes, he has tried. Successfull or not.

You can find all raising attempts in the log.

Naturally skills that were used recently have Skill Usage Points.
And skills with Usage Points were used recently.
And it should not require a explanation for why Leaders in a job might have this on Skill they use in their job.

So it 3 aspects of the same answer, not 3 answers.
