Then why do the Initial Ruins give Research Bonuses that can only be tapped with a Research Station ?

The ruins are mostly for giving you a boost in skip drive tech, I think. Honestly I thought they would be removed at the end of the beta, but here we are.

Sorry I meant space port not station. All you need is the first small space port which comes with a research lab and you can keep all scientists on your home planet.

Well, in that case you're mistaken. I just checked my ongoing game, and the scientist that's sitting on my homeworld (which has a spaceport of course) is not contributing to the research bonuses.

I just tested myself and you are absolutely right I was confused. I saw the bonuses on my racial reports and home planet and thought that was the bonus coming from the spaceport above with lab. I tested and sent my two scientists who had hyperdrive research bonuses to my research station with a hyperdrive research bonus and now see the additional research bonus amounts screen where my hyperdrive research and all other research went up from those two scientists. So you do have to move them off your home planet to research stations and cannot send them to a space port with lab nor does the space port with lab effect the character bonus. I've been deprived of the bonus my whole game. Ouch but very glad it works!

But yes it does not seem to matter which research station you send them to so I guess spit them up or send them to the safest one...
