V.1.0.3.1 Major Economy Bug

Post by SpacePerson »

Image

Possibly serious economy bug from this patch.

Bug: It is no longer possible to gain _'Annual Bonus Income'_ from more than a single source in a single in-game year. Whatever source of 'Annual Bonus Income' is added first in any single year period is the _only_ source that will be included (in either the 'Total' 'Annual Bonus Income' or reflected in the total available 'Cash').

Bug Consistency: I first encountered this bug this morning when I resumed the game I'd been playing last night (before the new patch). It was a late game so I would expect _some_ 'Annual Bonus Income' from 'Fuel Sales', 'Ship Building' and 'Tourism' at the very least (and typically trade as well). As per the standard advice listed in the patch notes, I deleted the two settings files, all my save games (including the one I was oh so close to finishing from last night) and started over. The bug is still there in the new game as evidenced from the above screenshots.

Screenshot Explanation: Series of four screen grabs in a single in-game year. This is the 11th year of the game and interstellar travel only became available recently. In this game, 'Expanded Civilian Ships' is almost done. When this tech is finished, the AI will generally rush to produce a bunch of new ships which, in turn, results in a windfall of 'Annual Bonus Income' in the form of 'Ship Building'.

1. Red circles. New year. 'Expanded Civilian Ships' is about to finish. I got a bit of 'Ship Building' last year.

2. Blue circles. A month later and 'Expanded Civilian Ships' is done. Strange, still no 'Ship Building' 'Annual Bonus Income', still early in the year though.

3. Red circles. It's now late August, just a random mid-year date. Note that 8 new 'Small Freighters' are queued up between the spaceport and the planet. All of these ships _should_ be generating 'Ship Building' 'Annual Bonus Income' and this is just one random day selected during the year.

4. Blue circles. The last day of the year. Note still no 'Ship Building' 'Annual Bonus Income' even though there is new tech that should have triggered a bunch (or at least _some_).

Additional Cashflow Note: There is evidence that this is _not_ simply a display issue either. 'Cash' went from $122k on 02Jan to $142k on 30Dec for a difference of $20k. This is only a $7k difference between the floating average fixed income of $13k displayed in shot 2 and there's more 'Ship Building' value displayed on a single day in shot 3 than $7k.

I would be very happy to share a save game file.

Zipping it up and adding it to this thread in a new post as an attachment would be fine.

The upload appears to have worked. That save game file reflects the starting date for my images above, 02Jan2764.

Just run the game from there and you can see exactly what I'm describing.

Based on discussions in the forums it sounds like basically everyone running this version is seeing the same bug as well. The only thing up for debate is whether this is simple a display issue (affecting only the display of 'Annual Bonus Income') or if it is actually affecting the net result ('Cash' onhand) of fixed income + 'Annual Bonus Income'.

@Erik:

1. Is there any relatively easy way for me to revert to 1.0.2.8 (given that Steam is not even displaying that version as an option)?

2. Quick Bug: The filters in the Prisoners tab are mislabeled (and possibly broken). The filter labeled 'Spies' in-game is actually the 'All' filter (I think). Could be other problems though.

We've confirmed the economy issue and are pushing another update out today to fix it. We thought the crash fixes in 1.0.3.1 were safe enough for a day of public testing and urgent enough to not keep them for next week, but we clearly made the wrong call since this new economy bug slipped through.

The 1.0.3.3 update, which should resolve this issue, is now available.
