Matrix Games and 2by3 Announce the first DLC for War in the East 2

Steel Inferno will release on November

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East 2 was last year’s best-selling and most praised wargame. The simulation improved every aspect of its predecessor, effectively rebooting the series and giving it new life. Since its release, Gary Grigsby and his team have been working hard to improve gameplay with various upgrades. Simultaneously, 2by3 Games started work on the game’s first DLC, Steel Inferno.  This expansion puts the spotlight on several major offensives that influenced the course of the war in the East. It is also expanding the gigantic map further by opening new areas throughout eight new Scenarios and two new Campaigns.

Steel Inferno covers Operations in Yugoslavia in 1944 for the first time and adds several German scenarios, such as the attack into the Caucasus. The addition of hypothetical scenarios and two new full map campaigns offer countless extra gameplay hours in historically detailed settings and what-if alternatives.

The Steel Inferno DLC includes:

 Two complete Campaigns:
•        1943 Campaign - 3 Jul 43 - 6 Jul 45 -- an entire Campaign starting with the German Operation
•        1944 Campaign- 11 May 44 - 4 Jul 45 -- an entire Campaign that begins with the Soviets readying for the start of
their massive Summer 1944 offensives.

Eight Scenarios:

•        Road to Karelia     - 22 Jun 41 - 11 Oct 41
•        Army Group A - Part I - Race for the Caucasus - 25 Jul 42 - 20 Nov 42
•        Case Blue Phase II 42-43 - 25 Jul 42 - 5 Mar 43
•        Case Blue Phase II 43-43 - Alternate - 25 Jul 42 - 5 Mar 43
•        AG C - Kutuzov to Bagration 43-44 - 12 Jul 43 - 2 Apr 44
•        Army Group A - Part II - Kuban Bridgehead - 1 Feb 43 - 10 October 43
•        Western Ukraine 43-44 - 3 Nov 43 - 25 Apr 44
•        Drama on the Danube 44 - 20 Aug 44 - 5 May 45

Not at this time, but it's hard to say what will happen down the road. The possibility exists, but it would be a major effort requiring many changes to the game code and a massive data integration effort. Of course we didn't expect to see WitP turn into WitP AE, so you never know how things will play out.

the DLC is "only" about new campaigns/scenarios - without impact on the basegame, right?

Yes, the base game continues to improve and evolve separate of the DLC. All code changes apply to both standard and DLC scenarios.

Any thoughts of opening Theater Boxes on the map and including counters IE Finland or the Bulkans with Partisans etc. I think that would be fun to include.

Hi just looked at the new requirements for this DLC and it says that you need to have as a Minimum OS windows 10

Currently I am playing the main game on windows 7 as it is compatible, does this mean that the DLC wont work for me on windows 7 ?

Do I now require to have to upgrade my OS to windows 10

There are no code changes that would alter the windows requirements. I'm not sure why the requirement for SI is different than for WitE2. I'll ask Matrix about that. It could be they are phasing out support for earlier Windows versions, or it could be a mistake.

We're not working on that ourselves for the main campaign, but I know there's at least one modder working on a scenario for H2H play that includes some or all of Finland. Unfortunately without some additional code changes, it's hard to cover the far northern area of Finland given we don't have the ports in the north operating. There has been some talk of a future expansion that would try to deal with this, no work on this has started. As for the Balkans, I'm not sure how the partisans could be handled over the course of the war. It probably could be handled with a number of events that flipped control and created units. However the current options are limited and would likely require more code changes.

Most of my development work is made under Windoze 7, even testing of some DLC scenarios.

WitE 1.08+ dev team (data/scenario maintainer)
WitW dev team (aircraft data, partial data/scenario maintainer)

I have been waiting for a 1942 Case Blue complete campaign and thought it would be in the new DLC. What I think I see are complete 1943 and 1944 campaigns and no 1942 campaign. I only see parts of the 1942 campaign broken into scenarios. Do you have any plans on releasing a complete 1942 - 1945 campaign?

Thanks for the great work as always.

That is expected in the 2nd DLC, but there is no time frame on when that might happen.
