[FIXED] 1328.11 - Strikers and Escorts Not Working Together

Post by Shkval25 »

I've enclosed a test scenario to illustrate two issues I've been having with the behavior of aircraft assigned as escorts to missions.

1. If I simply assign aircraft to the strike mission with escorts, only the escort flights will actually launch or even begin the launch process. Now, if I hit the "Create or Update Flight Plan" button after assigning aircraft and before any time has passed, then all aircraft will launch and execute the mission. I've also experienced this problem with anti-ship missions against newly detected targets and I don't see how this workaround can work in that case.

2. When all aircraft launch, escorts are not following the aircraft. Instead they just fly off to the east. Only when enemy aircraft get within the threat radius of the strikers do the escorts remember they're supposed to be escorting. By this time they are of course too far away to do the strikers any good.

You indicated that this was fixed, but I'd say that it is only partially fixed.

The escorts now fly with the strikers, and everything seems to work fine. But, on the path home, the escort leaves the striker and starts making a huge loop around the target area, all while the striker is heading home. It appears to me that this action continues until the escort and the striker are a certain distance apart that the escort remembers that it is supposed to be with the striker.

Additional, if the escort is a SEAD and it has unspent ordinance, then this happens. This might be by design. If the escort fired all of its SEAD ordinance, then it IMMEDIATELY abandons the striker and RTB via a straight line.

The ONLY way that I have seen this work correctly is if the striker expends all of its ordinance. Then, both follow the path home as expected.
