"Invasion of Prussia" available for download

John Tiller's Battleground Series is a Hall of Fame lineup of games covering the Civil War and Napoleonic Wars. We've compiled these classic games into two new affordable collections, incorporating updated versions of these legendary titles. Incredible historical gameplay and great value!

I'm bumping this for newcomers to this series. See the first post in this thread with the link to the Napoleonic Archives. It's still there as far as I can tell...

I've got the original Talonsoft game and tried to get the 1806 Prussian campaign to work...I get the 1806 screen but none of the scenarios show up in the box...any ideas what the problem might be?

It sounds like you haven't installed properly. Are the scenarios in the relevant subfolders? I don't think it's a Matrix/Talonsoft engine incompatibility as all the files modified can work with both.
Is your Talonsoft game patched to the latest version?

Like Andy said, the file structure is set up for the Matrix version, but it shouldn't be too difficult to put the folders in a manner that the Talonsoft version reads, I'm just not sure what that would be.

If you can figure out the file structure, the mod should work with Talonsoft. It's been a few years since I looked at this... all I remember is it will be worth the trouble if you are interested in the Jena and Auerstadt battles.[8D]

Yes. You may have to manually install the files into the various subfolders. You shouldn't even have to rename then. Just delete the old contents and replace with the new. It's very straightforward actually but feel free to email or post here if problems. It's worth persevering with. When you are familiar there are the old nirproject add-on games still downloadable which you can also get to work.

The subfolders for Jena are in the file folder but when I initialize the game they don't show up in the opening screen box...I do have the latest patch. I was able to download the Napoleon in Russia mod's and in that case I did get the new scenarios to show up in the opening screen box but when I loaded one the map quality was horrible and the date at the bottom read 1800, so I suspect I still had a problem[:@]...I may just have to bite the bullet and get the Matrix versions...by the way, what's the difference between the mods already discussed and the games at Tiller's site, some of which cover the same battles? Also, I noticed he just released a Liepzig campaign game...anybody able to comment on that...from the designer notes it would appear to be more of a head to head game, at least for the scenarios that last more than a day.

It may sound a dumb question - what OS do you have ? The original games won't work with Vista and Win7, you have to buy the Matrix version.

Leipzig. The AI is as dumb as ever. Better in HTH.

I run the games under XP and have never had any problems with the original Talonsoft versions...one last question...so based on what appears to be a universal conscensus that the AI in the Tiller versions is not great, do the scenarios available from the NIR project, including the Jena scenarios, benefit from whatever AI improvements are inherent in the Matrix version of NIR and PTW?

Thanks.

There aren't any improvements in the Matrix version. So the nirproject scenarios are no better than any others in respect to that.

So as far as the AI goes the Talonsoft, Matrix and Tiller versions are about the same?

hello grognards,

i've managed it to get the new szenarios into my game i've earned...
and i'am happy about to use them. Congrates!!!

but i have got still a question in the grafiks of those new add szenarios.
is it possible to change the grafiks of these games into john tiller batlleground napoleonic wars style?
i'd like to use the grafiks of the orginal version rather then the downlaoded add on versions.
if it is possible to change the grafik, please let me know about.

It's doable but awkward and time consuming. The closest I got was what you see in the "Invasion of Prussia" and the Ulm scenarios. It's not something I would ever care to undertake again.

see this thread for examples: link

There are instructions to be found in the reverse engineering pages (if they still exist).

I was informed recently that my "Invasion of Prussia" mod is still available for those who are still interested. You will find it a few lines down at the old NIR project website. You need "Prelude to Waterloo" to play this campaign. I don't have much time to support this anymore, but it was play tested quite a bit.

Cheers.
