Suggestion for ASW Patrol missions

Post by HalfLifeExpert »

I think it would be a good idea to add certain options to ASW patrol missions, specifically for ASW Aircraft.

I've often had situations where I effectively need to cover a large area with ASW aircraft, but naturally this means alot of Sonobouys end up getting wasted.

While the game does allow up to have effectively unlimited Sonobouys, this isn't completely realistic I don't think, since especially in peace time, the higher ups wouldn't approved of mass usage of expensive sonobouys to just cover a large area when there's no actual contacts.

I think we should add the ability to tweak Sonobouy usage for aircraft in ASW missions, such as:

-Set number of sonobouys dropped in a given time period, or how far apart they should be dropped, when there is no contact (general searching).

-Set whether to use active sonobouys in general searching, so as to reserve them for fixing/engaging contacts picked up by passive bouys or other sources.

-Set whether to drop bouys over or under the layer, or mixed (as is now)

Thoughts on this?

Doctrine options for more flexible sonobuoy use are indeed part of our (ever increasing) stack labeled "HUGE underwater warfare improvements checklist".

Once we get XXXXX, YYYYYYYY and especially ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ out of the way, we hope we'll be able to devote some love to that stack.

Thanks.
