Issue Accessing Multiplayer Game

Post by Toronja91 »

I am trying to access a game saved on the MP server and receive the following error: "WINHTTP_CALLBACK_STATUS_FLAG_CERT_DATE_INVALID SLL certificate is expired"

I have a screenshot attached.

Grok says the following:

The error message "WINHTTP_CALLBACK_STATUS_FLAG_CERT_DATE_INVALID SLL certificate is expired" (noting that "SLL" is likely a typo for "SSL," which refers to Secure Sockets Layer, the predecessor to modern TLS encryption) indicates a problem establishing a secure connection to the Matrix Games multiplayer server for War in the East 2.This is a Windows-specific flag from the WinHTTP API (a library used for HTTP communications in applications like games). It means the server's SSL/TLS certificate—essentially a digital ID that verifies the server's authenticity and enables encrypted communication—has an invalid date, typically because it has expired beyond its validity period. In practical terms:The game's client is attempting to log in but rejects the connection for security reasons, as an expired certificate could indicate a potential man-in-the-middle attack or outdated server maintenance.
This is a server-side issue hosted by Slitherine (Matrix Games' parent company), which manages the PBEM++ multiplayer system for titles like War in the East 2. Players log in using a Slitherine account to access the server for hosting and exchanging turns.
Matrix/Slitherine has had similar certificate expiration problems reported in their forums historically (e.g., on subdomains or redirects), often resolved by renewing the certificate through their provider.

If this persists, it's worth checking the official Matrix Games or Slitherine forums for updates, or their status page at https://status.slitherine.com/ for any reported outages related to the PBEM/multiplayer service. The admins would need to renew and deploy a new certificate to fix it server-side.

Likewise.
Have notified support.

With sweet, mellifluous sounds.

I am also facing this same error issue.

I ahve tried validating the files and also reinstalling the game.

My opponent is not having the issue though so i am sure why i only affects some but not all.

Hope they fix this soon

Multiplayer is now working for me. The problem appears to be fixed.
