US bases

Post by merlinark »

Hello everyone,

Working on my first scenario.
I’m not seeing these bases in the DB:
Tennessee
Memphis ANGB
McGhee ANGB
Mississippi
Keesler AFB
Meridian NAS
Thompson Field Jackson
Florida
Pensacola NAS
Texas
Fort Worth NAS JRB
Lackland AFB aka Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland
Arkansas
Little Rock AFB
Louisiana
Belle Chase NAS
Georgia
Savannah ANGB
Robins AFB
Alabama Dannelly Field
Birmingham ANGB

Do the .inst files already exist so I could import them to the DB?

If not, what’s the best process to create them in the DB?

Thanks in advance,
Merlinark

The DB cannot be modified in the civilian version, is a pro feature.

Airfields, airports, bases, etc are generic in the DB.

There are bases with name, location and elements in form of inst files, that may be imported to your scenario, not to the DB.

If they are not, P Gatcomp tutorial on how to create an airfield, is an useful reference.

Cool, I will check that out.

I found all the .inst files in the import/export folder.
I was hoping to create files for those bases.

I used ChatGPT to generate a .inst file but it was in what looked like html format.
I used import it on it but no data showed on the right side.

I had the idea to export one of the existing bases and modify it.
I noticed the base had a ID number and figured I can’t reuse the same number. Might confuse it or cause a problem.
I was googling how to change it and to not cause a problem.

Thinking that would be quicker for so many bases.

Would you be helped by this?

I made some for the cold war 1989.=. They are single airfield only to save on the amount of units. The runways are supposed to be oriented towards the right direction.

Awesome!
That's what I'm looking for!
Thank you!

Some bases are no longer operational.
I will try to update it from what I can find and post them here.

Hope I'm not butting in here, but it sounds like you are putting together a very large scenario and you mentioned it is the first one you have written.

May I recommend you save this scenario for later and do a few other, less complex ones first?

Some aspects of scenario writing for Command are really simple, and even large ones aren't hard if that's all you're doing, but others are kind of persnickety...if you don't set things up just right, you can get really odd behavior from the game. It can take a while to figure them out, some of them are not intuitive, and if you've got a huge scenario with a lot of variables, it can be tough to get it right.

By the way, unless someone is shooting at your bases, and specific details matter, it is usually simpler to just use a single-unit base rather than try to recreate the actual base down to the individual hangers. As you probably know, the database includes quite a few of these so all you really need to do is find the location of the base, add the unit, change the name, and *poof!* you've got Memphis or Keesler or whatever base it is you need.

I hope this helps. Please keep asking questions...we've got a pretty good group on these forums and they'll try to help you out if they can.

Hi Mgellis,

I welcome all advice.

I played the Nicaragua Missile Crisis (2024) by AI.Sandrik and it got me to think of other situations recently.
A confrontation with Venezuela over the drug boats being destroyed.

That would require moving assets around.
Transport aircraft bases would be needed.

When I played the Nicaragua scenario, the thought of capturing an enemy base could make things easier.
That would require cargo planes moving fuel and ammo to a new airfield.
Not destroying the facilities would be nice.
Reading on the forums, it sounds like it would better to handle in a multi-part scenario.

I agree with starting with simpler missions that work and adding on details as I get better.
Like writing a computer program and know it works before adding more to it.

Thanks in advance,
