It's probably meant to represent the makeshift "armored" train then Colonel Ben Butler used to help advance the 7th New York, and 8th Massachusetts regiments from Annapolis into Washington past local secessionist saboteurs and irregulars in April 1861. Basically it consisted of a howitzer, loaded with canister, mounted on the first car, while the second carried extra ammunition accompanied by six riflemen. Next came an old locomotive to push, followed by two passenger cars carrying two companies of infantry. They repaired the vandalized railroad line and bridges as they advanced.

Ah thanks for the history! I guess the Confederates did not get one until later?
