Cargo Ships in Transport TF's

Post by esmith »

I recently downloaded v3.2 and notice it seems to have the same annoying bug that previous versions had. When I build transport TF's for amphibious attack, I usually include 3 or 4 groups of cargo ships to carry supplies and fuel. I find that the computer steals cargo ships from those groups and seems to put them in the pool. Sometimes it is just 2 or 3 ships from a group in one turn, but sometimes it is 15 or 20 out of 25 in one turn. These tasks forces have not been subject to any attacks.Sometimes in transiting from one of my bases to another in one turn half the ship disappear and I assume the supplies also. This problem requires disbanding the TF at the destination, going into the "PORT" screen and pumping up the cargo ship groups, and then rebuilding the task force.

Does any one have a remedy for this problem?

TIA,

Ususally some ships disappear while loading them with supplies or mixed supplies if there's not enough supply in your base - if you try to load a 30-ship-group with supplies but you only have 2000 supplies at your base you'll end up with a 5-ship group (or 10-15 depending on ship size/cargo capacity).

[:D] It is not really a bad glitch, you didn't lose the ships. What the computer taketh away and it can giveth back. Actually, if you check your force pools (hit F4); you will see that the ships have been returned to the pool. As the previous reply by Denniss stated, if there is not sufficient supply at the base, the computer sends the surplus ships back to the pool. In addition, only cargo (MCS) and oilers (TK) are affected. Other ships (e.g. AVs, APs, and AOs) are unaffected when loading; thus, I load the MCS first with supplies then load APs, AVs, etc. last to ensure the maximum loads on the MCS. FYI: This same "glitch" can be a bonus, too! If you leave just one ship of the type you are loading in the force pool, you can "create" an extra ship when you load if the base has plenty of supply or fuel- like the home ports Tokyo and San Francisco.

it seems the systems takes away less ships when you load mixed supplies.
not that it helps in an amphibious TF, but when you want to evacuate supplies, you can evacuate more with mixed than with supplies...

And if you're the Allies, it never hurts to deny fuel to the Japanese.
