Quick Combat Advice

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

Avoid it.

After that, pending really on the enemy setup. If he has allot of Cav, then use Infantry on defense, If he is infantry heavy use your infantry in attack with artillery spaced even between your troops, as he has to at all other before artillery.

My advice is in the Tip Guide, in the section called Quick Combat. (well, a little from me and a lot from Mr Z)

My set-up is as below (unless numerically overwhelmed):
Spread various types of units as even as possible.
Focus either on offence or on defence.
Deploy at most two cavalries and two artilleries in a zone, other places to be filled by infantries.
Place infantries round artilleries.
Place cavalries on the edges.

I am working on the strategic part of the game and I don't really bother myself with in-depth analytical planning of battle tactics.
