Funny thing. I live in Fla, so I see nothing but doddering old men. I sometimes lose patience with the elderly, until I watch SPR, or grab the history books.

Old men were once young troublemakers I guess is the moral of the story. Never thought I'd see old Nappy's boys in photos though.

Thanks for the link Sarge. It is interesting to view photos of soldiers from that Era even though they were past their prime when the photo's were taken. We have to wait until the U.S. Civil war to see any current soldier photo's let alone any battle field pictures.
We can only imagine what it would have looked like to see the great armys arrayed on the field of battle just before the engagement began and then to see the horror after its over.[X(]

were once young men. There was this geezer on a walker who used to come in every Friday to the credit union, and he would threaten to blow us all up with his oxygen tank (attached to the walker) on a regular basis.

He was an 80-something Marine. I can easily picture him jamming a K-bar through a Nipponese skull.

when I used to drink, I would go out in the mornings after work and sit around and talk to the old timers, lots of Vets and retired people

and I would let them tell me there stories (knew a Ranger from the D-Day landings, a Tin Can sailor, his ship was one of those that was hit a number of times off of Okie while on Radar picket duty, and others)

but I knew a old Marine, and as a young exMarine, we got along good, but this guy, by law, had been kicked out of almost every bar in the area, for fighting, the bad part is, he won most times !

one day he comes into the bar and is wearing a gold coin on a neckless around his neck, when I asked him why, he wouldn't tell the story, he wanted his friend (a B-25 Pilot from China)to do it

seems last night, in another bar, a young big buck with a gold coin neckless was talking Crud, when my friend stood up to him, the young buck thought that was funny, and said, old man, I will even give you the first swing

famous last words, one swing later, the buck is out cold and lying on the floor, the old man, reaches over and take the gold coin off his neck and puts it on, and tells his friends to tell him, if he wants it back, he knows where to find him

he wore that coin for as long as I knew him afterward
