Cannot attack Allied Subs

I am playing the Germans and the other countries are controlled by the computer, the AI.

I cannot attack the Western allied submarines. I move into the space they occupy with my sub and other attack ships and cannot initiate an attack. Sometimes a plane will but not always. As a result, the Western Allied subs have free reign. Can you help me with this problem? Is it a bug or is there something I do not know.

Subs cannot attack subs. You need to check the ASW value of your units. It is possible the WA has researched their sub evasion and you do not have a unit that has the potential to hit a sub. If you still have ASW values of 1 and the WA sub evasion is 3, you cannot hit, thus you cannot launch an attack. If this is the case you need to research your Sub Attack value for at least one of your unit types.

Actually, I believe this was fixed with one of the patches so that you could attack with units that couldn't possibly hit (assuming they have at least ASW 1 as Joel notes) to help lower the evasion for subsequent attacks. I think this was working right in the last couple games I played. RJMI - make sure you have the latest version.

I have the latest version. The problem was that I cannot even initiate an attack. However, none of my ships have sufficient ASW to kill the sub. Is that why I cannot even initiate an attack. I wll increase my ASW and see if I can engage the subs.
