Really jarred now!

Post by JudgeDredd »

I've just spent over 2 hours going through each unit in my new scenario, changing sizes, unit attributes, objectives, victory conditions to have the scenario maker crash on me!![:@]

Is there a log I can get you to let you see what happened? I got a "COTA_SM.exe has encountered a problem and has to close..." message and in my pissed off attitude, I didn't take a pic or look specifically at the error, so don't know exactly what it said.

I can say that I had performed all necessaries for the map (calculating terrain tables, map cache etc). I went to double click an objective to changed the time I think when I got the error. This was an action I had performed previously this evening.

And don't tell me about saving often. I work with computers and know to save frequently...but that doesn't help me now.

JD,

I have had similar, recent experiences with the "click objective CTD in SM." I attributed it to my inherently unstable home machine which, by the way, will not import/export xml force lists without a CTD (my work computer does it no problem).

I would be interested to hear of any other designers who have experienced these CTD's.

Billy,

It's going to be extremely difficult to track this one down without you using a debug version of the ScenMaker. I can let you have one on trial but you will have to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement. Are you willing?

Dave, It's pretty easy to duplicate one of the SM CTD's that get's me every so often:

1. select an allied unit in SM, leave it highlighted.

2. select an axis objective and move it. boom.

works both ways, as long as the unit and objective are not on the same side.

Dave

I already have a non-disclosure agreement with Panther Games.

Quite some time back, I signed one to help beta COTA. Unfortunately, due to work commitments, I had to stop.

If you need me to sign a more recent one, then that's fine. If on the other hand what simovitch suggests causes it, then that's fine too.

I can't remember the exact thing I was doing...but editing forces and objectives were some of them. But I thought if yu selected a side, then only the objectives for that side showed [&:]

Thats what I thought too, but check it out. When SM starts it defaults to the axis side. Select an allied unit - the objectives don't change (but the SEP's and info tabs do)! Now move one of the objectives while the allied unit is highlighted.[:@]

AFAIK the sides will only change by selecting a unit from the force list.

Thanks Richard. That helps.

TT3171 - SM - Check out CTD and possible cause - side not changed when units on map selected
