Italians delay the french at Paris 6/19/40

1600 Hours

We have had over a month to prepare our defences for this battle against the French. Slit trenches have been dug and sandbags placed around all the guns. The few mines we were able to get have all been layed around the center road that runs thru our lines. The 10th panzer is on our left and we are to anchor there right flank to the north of them.

We have been given strict orders we are to hold at all costs or face the wrath of there commanding officer. All our uniforms have been cleaned and pressed. We made a very handsome troop of men as we marched here to our defences. I dont know how much we impressed the Germans but the feathers were a nice add on to our hats I thought. A very handsome and determined fighting force. We must do something to establish us as a legal fighting force. No more being laughed at by the German troops.

It is 1600 Hours and we can hear the french begining there movement towards our lines. The first of our big guns has begun to lay some shells just beyond no mans land. The first explosions have begun this battle is starting. Glory to our homeland and to this Legion.

1630 Hours

A half an hour into the battle and we are holding our own. They are sending in a lot of armor at us plus several companys of infantry. We have already blown up at least 15 to 20 tanks of theres. Our troops are still the worst shots I have ever seen. But with as much firepower we are throwing at them some one has to hit once in a while. We lost one of the two tanks we had left from our battle last month. Our IG and ATG are taking a heavy toll. Im so glad we were able to get them all repaired last month.

They are racking us with 81 mortar and 75mm fire this has caused some problems. A few squads have begun to retreat from the front line but most are holding there ground and fighting back. Our arttty seems to have more effect this time in slowing down there forward movement against us. Have seen our mortars take out a few of there tanks as well.

All and all this day seems to be so much better then our last battle. maybe we will have a great fighting force after a few more battles.

1645 Hours

We are begining to sustain higher casualties as the French begin to push hard on our north flank. The marines are begining to buckle somewhat. I must admit tho they have been under a very heavy and sustained assualt coupled with very heavy artty fire. There company has made the french pay dearly for any ground they have taken from them as well. Some squads are begining to run once again and I have no reserves to rush to there aid.

Have been giving a lot of thought to pulling C from the south and moving them up north as they have not had much coming at them all day. They are still strong and hardly any losses so far as the enemy has seen fit to leave them alone today. As you can see from the photo A in the center is still holding strong. Dam good idea I will give the order for C in the south to pull and head north to help them break the enemys back there. I think once the enemy is stopped in the north this fight will be ours.

Will take a few minutes for our boys in the south to make the move north just hope the marines can hold for another 25 minutes. We are inflicting heavy losses to the french but once again they show no let up in there efforts to whip us today. They have lost near 1000 men and at least 30 pieces of armor but this doesnt seem to faze them. Our losses are getting up close to 200 men im sure plus we lost both tanks that we started with today. A scout Lancia was taken out a few minutes ago the only one we had left from last months battle as well.

45 minutes into the battle and the Marines are begining to crumble. Got to say tho they held up a lot better then in last months fiasco. They have really been taking the brunt of the French assualt. Ever since 1600 hours they have been hit by armor infantry and very heavy artty fire. They are also making the french pay for ever man we lose taking out well over 300 men and 15 tanks in there brave fight to hold the line.

They are once again so surppressed they wont even hardly raise there rifles let alone fire them at the enemy. They have to be getting low on ammo as well. I sent word to them to hold relieve is on the way C in the south has begun to move north to give some aid. Dont know how fast they can make the move tho. But I have told them make all haste as there friends and comrads are in dire straights right now. Just dont blunder into a trap trying to get there.

An hour is all it took to stop the French today. I had pulled C from the south flank and got them started north. But didnt matter the French gave up before they even got half way. The Marines did well under some very severe conditions. The french it seemed where determined to break them. But they hung in and managed to do a lot of damage. Most of the fighting today was located at the north side .

We lost another 208 men while accounting for 794 of the enemy. Once again our tanks were hit hard lost 14 of those guys while taking out 28 of theres. Also popped 10 of there apc during the fight.

We are thru here we are to move to a port of debarkation. We are to ship out for Lbyia with in the next 10 days. After we have arrived and done some training to get prepaired for fighting in the desert. We are to really redo the whole Batailion before we go back into battle next year. We will have a new look from heavier armor to new uniforms as well. We must get ready for the British and there much heavier tanks then we faced against the French. It will surely be a much harder test when we go up aginst the dreaded British Tommys. But now we have two battles under our belt and we did much better in this last one.
