Recommended Upgrade Path?

Post by shunwick »

Is there a recommended upgrade path for titans? I have some funds but don't know enough at the moment to tell if I would be better off upgrading the scanners or the battle computers or the armour or ...

What would you recommend?

I don't think so... just tweak stuff to get a feel of what works for you. Most of the time I just changed weapons and upgraded scanners on stock Titans I liked. Armor tends to get the short end of the stick if you upgrade many things (weight allowance, ouch). Didn't really start making wholesale changes until I could afford the heavier Titans and my jocks had the experience and skill to handle them.

I'm not a pro at the game, but I would just keep track of what frustrated me during each battle.  If a particular titan took too long to lock on to the enemy, I would prioritize that on the to-do list.  And so forth.  Even after dozens of battles (and dozens more), my to-do list for my squad of titans only ever got longer.  And I would also really specialize each titan for a specific role on the team.  But I guess that's an obvious thing.

Upgrading is more with buying a new/heavier titan. Usually all titans have their weight/space limit maxed out so you just can't stick a better tool in it without hitting the limits. You can improve a titan for your needs by removing/downgrading stuff you don't like or stuff your jock can't handle. Example : You have a light titan with chainsaws and medium lasers but your jock can't handle energy weapons. Remove the lasers and use free space/weight to improve on armor, jump, better scanners or whatever suits your needs and skills.

Yes, I ran into the weight problem when I looked deeper into the factory module. As you say, it's about customizing each titan to the capabilities of the pilot. I am slowly getting it but everything is experimentation at the moment. I guess I shouldn't get too attached to my first squad.

I like the way the game is balanced. Every module really makes you think.

Factory module and customizing titans is a game within the game with lots of variants. For those who like tinkering with the best squad setup. Others can just choose a titan which suits their needs. There are lots of them.
