Screen Resolutions

Post by jchastain »

A few resolution related question if I might...

Anyone know what the max screen resolution is for this release?

Does it natively support a wide screen mode or does it stretch to fit?

Will it support a windowed mode or does it always run full screen?

Thanks.

I suppose we should assume that the game still runs at the same 1024x768 resolution and that the update did not include any work to enhance widescreen support.

The link you have is to the original East Front, not the greatly revised East Front 2, which is the basis of the Matrix release.

The latest Talonsoft versions of the games (EF2, WF, RS) use your current Windows desktop resolution and so support widescreen. I've been playing them on my 22-inch LCD monitor and can confirm this. I cannot recall the correct technical description, but basically the elements of the game screen, like the units display, is so many pixels wide, rather than a percent of the screen itself. So if your monitor has more pixels across, the units display covers a smaller percentage of the screen, which in turn displays more of the map. I have been playing at 1680x1050 and while the units are a bit on the small side you really can see a lot more of the map than if you were playing at 1280x800.

I cannot officially comment on whether the Campaign Series Matrix Edition still uses this method, but since I understand that the game engine is pretty much the same I assume it will be the same.

Thanks Temple. That is very welcome news. I always really enjoyed this series and would likely buy it regardless, but I'm much more excited at the prospects of firing it up at high res.
