You Choose for Me

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

You Choose for Me

Post by vahauser »

I've finally concluded that all Generated and Long Campaigns are way too easy, even after the first few battles. The computer is just too predictable and it is too easy to outmaneuver and create overwhelming killing zones even with 'minor allies'. Therefore, no more Generated or Long Campaigns for me.

Anyway, I'm thinking about playing the Enhanced Long Long Road campaign with one of the following:
Free French
Canadian
ANZAC

I will be using a modified Cataclysm/FlashFyre format (have to modify it a bit when playing a custom-designed campaign).

You tell me which nation (Free French, Canadian, or ANZAC) to use.

I can only use the nation you choose for all core and support forces.

Which nation do you choose for me?

You cant use Free French, the campaign starts in North Africa in Oct 1942 against the French.
The Free French OOB isnt available yet.
have you ever tried it just as it is designed?
Turn off charteristics so the USA doesnt get that ridiculous .01 arty delay.
or dont use FO's
[:)]

BTW, I totally agree with you on this...

There are alot of Great Campaigns, all edited for Enhanced now, and they all are challenging and fun.
Someday i will get around to playing one thru other than Balkan Crisis and Watchword Freedom.....the only 2 I have played all they way thru.
Flash recently just redid "Operation 25" too.

I had to edit this 3 times until I finally spelled "Campaigns" right...

I got a better one for you, Vic. Play the "Screaming Eagles" Mega Campaign with your favored settings. Pick the 506th.

Glenn,

I want to do this one first.  I'll take your suggestion after I do Long Long Road.

once again I repeat, The FREE French oob is not available when this campaign starts.
I mean game wise.
The campaign starts Oct 42, Free French OOb starts Jan 43.

Okay, so I guess it comes down to:
Canadian or ANZAC

Pick one for me.

If you're going to demand a response from us, then my "vote" is for you to use the Canadians, since they will be at least "mostly" historical for the bulk of the campaign.

FlashFyre,

Canadians it is then.  I was kind of hoping someobdy would choose the Canadians for me because I think the ANZAC is stronger in 1942 and so the Canadians will be a bit more challenging.  Also, I can build a more plausible back story for an independent Canadian battlegroup (I'll be calling it Group Anders) composed of former American immigrants to Canada and fighting alongside the Americans.  A bit of a stretch, for sure, but hey this is just for fun anyway.

I just edited the campaign and replaced the US Army flag with the Canadian flag. This will mean that the Canadians will be using Canadian artillery response times. I like this better than turning National Characteristics OFF.

[P.S. I have to use FOs because I play with C&C turned ON and I won't have enough orders to use my artillery without them. But changing the flag to Canadian solves this issue anyway.]

If campaigns are your thing, why not try winSPWW2?

More nations to choose from, a lot more options - using custom maps in your campaign, setting number of turns, placing induvidual VHs..., better AI...

And if that too is too easy - I'll buy, deploy, set waypoints and op-fire filter for the AI to make your campaign painful with a capital P.

I like the idea of placing individual VHs. Is the AI in winSPWW2 actually better than the one in SPWAW?

I like the idea of placing individual VHs.

Quite simple really - point and click - you can modify the location, value and owner of any VH to suit your needs..., for battles, campaigns, PBEM...

I think it's safe to say yes... [:)]

wulfir and Mac67,

I think I'll stick with SPWAW (Enhanced DVRN) for now.  I think this Canadian version of the Long Long Road campaign might be challenging.  If it turns out to be too easy, then I'll think about trying something different.

Alby,

I'm still studying the Canadian OOB trying to figure out a reasonable core.

Anybody care to suggest a Canadian core for me using Enhanced DVRN?

Alby,

Here is an idea for a Canadian core:

1x A0 (Colonel Anders)
3x tracked AOP
3x ammo boxes
6x jeeps
4x snipers
3x recce troops
2x engineer platoons
2x M5A1 platoons (for the engineers)
1x Ram II company, reduced (3 troops instead of normal 5)
3x 3" mortar sections
2x 25lbr sections
2x Light AAMG sections
1x Crusader I SPAA section
Total points = 2100

Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions?
