I'm relatively new here, so I'm not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm curious as to who is current/former military, what contry's military you were in, how long and where you served, and what job you did in the military. This is simply just out of curiosity, that's all. [:)]

D). 294th Military Police Company (Customs), 42nd Military Police Group, Mainz, Germany (April 1990 to April 1992)

I'm another STG(Sonar technician -surface)Made it to E4(STG3). 1978-82. USS Roark (1/79-6/80), San Diego. I went on 1 Southpac in '79. I saw the Samoas, Vila, Fiji, Wellington, Timaruu, Sydney, Newcastle, Hobart, Freemantle, Headland, Singapore, Phattaya, Subic, Guam, Midway, and of course Pearl. Had a great time, though I fractured my spinal column while riding in the back of a pickup in Thailand(it flipped into a gully).

It always concerns me, when playing my "Next War 1979" scenario, to see how often and thoroughly Ramstein AFB gets nuked.

My Father was a mechanic in the 4th Fighter Group (composed of the former Eagle Squadrons), based in Debden, England, during WWII.

And, for that matter, my Great-Great-Grandfather was in the 17th LA Regiment at Shiloh, where he had his head blown off (his headless corpse was identified by his watch).

Another one was at Fort Donaldson, wounded then paroled, captured and paroled again at Port Hudson, then finally wounded while in Stephen D. Lee's staff at Ezera Church (Atlanta). The bullet bounced off his forehead and plowed a furrow through his scalp - he woke up to hear General Lee declare him dead (he lived, with a unique hair style).

And at least one Great-Great-Great-Great-Grandfather was at Yorktown.

I've seen worse, and work with worse.... ever seen anything more conpulsive than money guys, and squabbling over a darned penny...?

Daily event in my shop - thank goodness I work in IT and don't have that kind of 'pressure'...

My dad was in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict but didn't go over there. Myself:

I enlisted in the USAF in Nov. of 1968 to avoid the draft and :

did basic training at San Antonio, TX.

Then went to Lowell AFB in Denver for advanced weapons mechanic training.

Then I went to Luke AFB in 1969 to work on the A-7D aircraft.

Then I volunteered to go to Vietnam in 1970 and they sent me to Bien Hoa where I spent a year ( nov. 1970 - nov. 1971 ) loading munitions on all kinds of planes: O-1, O-2, A-37, OV-10

Then I got sent to Hurlburt field in Florida where I worked on A-1, T-28, and OV-10 planes for about 9 months. Then I volunteered for Palace Gun and was picked to fly on AC-130 planes.

After training briefly I went to ( I think ) Moody AFB for parachute training,

then McDill AFB for water survival training ( how to use the rubber raft ),

Then ( I can't remember the name of the AFB in Washington state ) near the Idaho border but I went there for the POW survival training class of August 1972

Then I went to Clark AFB, Manila Phillippines for jungle survival ( what to eat, where to hide, etc. )

Then I spent a year at Ubon, Thailand flying AC-130 missions as a gunner every other night up and down the Ho Chi Minh trail looking to shoot trucks, bicycles, individuals, elelphants....whatever can convey equipment. This was from August 1972 to Aug 1973.

Then I got sent to Williams AFB, Gilbert Az. and spent the rest of my time there. got discharged in August (? ) 1974 and enrolled in the university of Arizona the very next day.

I may have forgotten a school for some quick training here and there but these are most of the biggees. Discharged as an E-5 with lots of Air Medals, oak leaf clusters, misc. ribbons, etc.
