GUI issues (window focus, mouse wheel zoom)

Post by murphstein »

These 2 behaviors are probably not intentional, are repeatable across the two machines (HP desktop, ThinkPad labtop) I use for game-play which do not share HW but do share WinXP-Pro-SP2 as the OS, and are common across all scenarios I've been playing since upgrading to the TOAW 3.2.29.26 beta.

The issues are:

1) While playing Elmer, when TOAW starts displaying the combat resolution results in the status bar, but prior to or coincident with popping up the combat resolution DIALOG, the TOAW main window goes completely white, then focus shifts to another application, i.e., some other Windows window pops up in the foreground, and the TOAW window disappears. I'm normally running TOAW full-screen and usually have an editor running in the background for notes. There seems to be a pattern (LRU) to which window gets brought forward, which makes it look like the TOAW appl is calling the function to relinquish focus. This only happens with "complex" combats (i.e., not air attacks or naval bombardments). I can spend more time on identifying the requisite conditions, if need be.

2) The new "mouse wheel to zoom" feature is *WAY* too sensitive to very small motions of the mouse wheel; I've cranked all my input device sensitivities down as far as possible, with no noticeable effect. The smallest possible rotation of the wheel (i.e., less than the amount required to move 1 line up/down in this dialog), results in the TOAW map view jumping from min to max, thru all intervening zoom levels. FWIW, I'm using a Microsoft USB wireless optical mouse with their driver version 6.1.246.0; I get the same behavior from my HP wired mouse on the HP desktop, so I doubt it's HW-dependent.

Otherwise, the beta looks really solid, thanks.
