I was on the verge of buying this until I read that there were weekly turns over 10 years so 520 turns?
The screenshot just shows July though - can somebody tell me if the turns are weekly or monthly?

so 120 turns? Is that enough for a game of this size? Seems awful small (mind you, if it was 520 turns I expect you'd have some people saying "No thanks...too big"....no win situation really)

Bear in mind that this isn't an 'annex all of Europe' game -- VPs are accumulated through maintaining high political status, which can be gained through battles, winning wars, economic manipulation, making alliances, and so forth.  I won my first game as France (against all easy AIs, heh) by Sep. 1813, having beaten down England, Spain, Prussia, Austria (each more than once), and never having lifted a finger against the Turks (an ally I never called), nor Russia.   No need to invade for any longer than to get the unconditional, since you don't need to actually eliminate a major power by holding every single province or so forth -- just keep your political status high, and that of the others low.

Mobility is also pretty decent -- most infantry corps having 3 MP, and fleets having 7.

Lastly, each turn has multiple phases, and considering PBEM e-mail exchanges for each phase...

Well, actually a player has a minimum of 52 turns a year (4 reoccurring monthly phases; Diplomacy, Reinforcement, Naval, and Land, and 1 quarterly Economic phase [x4]) and that’s if the player was not involved in any naval or land combat (and we all know that’s not likely to happen). So if a game went into 1815, you’re guaranteed to have already played 521 turns, which includes the setup phase (although the Prussian player might claim that the naval phase does not count)

No, it's actually played in turns of 17,9 days each. Perfect, isn't it ? [:'(]

Could the confusion be because there game is based on monthly turns, spanning 10 years= 120 turns.

BUT

Each turn is broken down into a number of phases (diplomatic, naval, land, economic), which means that you will actually take actions more than 120 times....

and the above posters are mixing those two terms ("turn" and "phase") up?

I played Uncommon Valor and really enjoyed the game but every few months I have to stop myself from buying War in the Pacific as the turn length
by PBEM makes it seem unplayable to me. I can play long games such as AACW (around 120 turns) but I worry about this game even with only 120 turns due to the number of players. Many will surely drop out.

The fact that the turns are indeed monthly rather than weekly does seem to suggest that the game may be playable though.
It seems a player will have to take actions every night in order to get through a monthly turn each week?
So maybe by PBEM it is possible to go forward one month per week or so if each player is active?

So the game will last around 2 years or so?

Cheers, Chris

The game, if I am reading it right, keeps track of how long your playing.

I've been playing one game for about 14 hours, and its September of 1810.

Admittedly, I spent most of 1808 and 1809 just clicking through the phases, as there wasn't a lot for me to do.
