Player Faces

Post by Wrathchild »

When there is a transition from one season to another there is a face where it generates new players and updates player photos. I have two questions on this:

1) It doesn't touch players already assigned photos, does it?

2) Why don't 'generic' players get pictures? I thought it was supposed to randomly assign a photo from the Generic folder for these.

I can only answer one of these for sure...

1) No. It does not change existing players who already have photos.

Wrath, I have seen instances where a fictional player will not be assigned a picture, and in every case that I can recall, it was a scrub.

If you tell PS to AutoAssign player photos from the Configuration Options dialog box, it will assign different pix to all of the fictional players...so Joe Bagodonuts may lose/gain facial hair etc. and may even change skin color (There must be a joke in there somewhere, but I can't seem to find it.). And I am not sure if the scrubs will be assigned pictures when you do that. They may still be faceless nobodies.

It might be worth a try...but back up your current database before you do.

Related question: What is the most reasonable way to organize your faces directory for maximum coverage? Mine is organized by decade, and severeal significant players who probably have pictures don't display them.

Mine all are organized by decades and I haven't really seen any problems with real players getting a photo if one exists. What it looks like to me, though, is that if you are playing a historical association then fictional players won't be assigned random faces from the Generic folder.

Wrath,

I don't believe so, but I wasn't 100% sure so I didn't want to respond at first. If the teams you are playing with are relatively new or newer teams, PadresFan's site has a pack of face images for fictional players but with uniform of real teams. i.e. you can find a generic face for a Marlins player or someone from the Yankees. It's a much better alternative, in my opinion, than the blank face slot.

FS,

I do have the faces from PadresFan's site, but forgot about them. My Generic folder has the pack of 2600 random faces (non-team specific), and I've been using those, though I have no idea why I wasn't using the fake faces from the real teams. I think I simply forgot that I had them.

Wrath,

I have that pack too. I use it for ficional associations. When I'm doing a REAL association, there's nothing better than that other pack. Glad you remembered you had it!

Where is your faces directory located? I don't know if mine are in the right place, because the program can't find the faces of guys like Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig.

The faces directory should be under \mods.
